Flatpeak

Real-time energy prices API

[Flatpeak @flatpeakenergy]

Most batteries still run blind.

Without energy price data, they miss savings, waste cycles, and charge at wrong time.

@Flatpeak gives storage systems the true energy cost—per address, in real time.

⚡ Cheaper energy
⚡ Higher ROI
⚡ Greener grid

China's home-designed megawatt-scale commercial buoyant airborne turbine, the S1500, has successfully completed its maiden flight in northwest China's Hami after passing tests including full desert assembly and continuous high-wind deployment and retrieval.
At 60 meters long, 40 meters wide and 40 meters tall, it is by far the largest floating wind-power generator ever built, with the main airfoil and annular wing together forming a giant duct that houses 12 turbine-generator sets, each rated at 100 kW. Its rotors can harness the steady high-altitude jet stream and convert wind into electricity, which is then transmitted reliably to the ground through the tether cable.

Comment about the pricing of new @OctopusEnergy Flux tariff.

20p off peak seems high. But only because we got used to 5p on Go.

Over the past year, every 30 min slot at average "Wholesale" prices has been >14p, even overnight.

Can't expect Octopus to buy at 15p & sell at 10p?

[Leo Hickman @LeoHickman]

Wow!

The judge's summation after 7x Just Stop Oil supporters were found guilty of aggravated trespass is simply extraordinary:

"You should feel guilty for nothing. You should feel proud that you care, have concern for the future."

China now has enough wind and solar to power every home .

Installed a combined 125GW of new wind and solar capacity in 2022, bringing its total cumulative renewable energy capacity to over 1,200GW.

Blimey. There will be 277 of these in the Dogger Bank offshore farm.

[Robin Hawkes @robhawkes]

See that teeny tiny speck at the bottom? That's a person, to scale 🔍🤯

One spin of those ginormous blades is enough energy to send a fully-loaded Eurostar a full kilometre 🚄

A wind farm full of these could send 750 people from London to Paris in just a couple spins! ⚡️⚡️

[Assaad Razzouk @AssaadRazzouk]

1 Baseload is dead
2 Wind and solar are cheapest electricity almost everywhere
3 Batteries can fill most supply gaps more cheaply than “peaking” plants
4 We must deploy the technologies we have today to go net zero fastest

@LionHirth Time to coin a phrase, back fill plants? The alternative is to shift demand.

Important context!

[David Wallace-Wells @dwallacewells]

“Nor do climate people all agree on the solutions to pursue. In some cases, they believe other tribes are actively harmful. The enemy, in their minds, aren’t climate deniers, as we might have seen a decade ago—they’re other people working in climate.” https://t.co/pGDMRZtwPi

[Jan Rosenow @janrosenow]

Resharing this graph from @KetanJ0 - might help to contextualise some of the debate about the UK firing up coal plants right now.

[Science Is Strategic @scienceisstrat1]

The @IEA’s bombshell new report on renewables has incredibly good news.

For example, solar is undergoing a mega boom & may surpass coal by 2027

Below is a 🧵 on genuinely good news on green energy from the IEA & beyond (1/22)

French nuclear reactors pushing above 40 GW for the first time in a really long time — each extra GW is really welcomed today and tomorrow as they are needed. This is the electricity version of ‘allez les blues’ 🇫🇷 ⚡️

[Alex Alenberg @alexalenberg]

@JavierBlas We shall invest more in shifting the load to periods when there is more wind/solar. There is simply no other way - renewables are intermittent by nature.

🚨ONSHORE WIND BAN LIFTED🚨

🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

A massive congratulations to @SimonClarkeMP for this victory and the coalition of over thirty Tory MPs who signed his amendment!

[Sam Dumitriu @Sam_Dumitriu]

Why does it take so long to build new infrastructure in the UK?

Answer: The planning system for major infrastructure projects simply isn’t working. 🧵

[Flatpeak @flatpeakenergy]

SBSP is one solution to variable power availability & suspect we'll get it long term. In the next few decades we need quick solutions for demand shifting.
