It was nothing of the sort. Humans built, configured, maintained a test environment incorrectly and failed to monitor it.

Another attack of anthropomorphization.

We could have made this same mistake with an internet worm in 1995 while testing Exchange mail. In fact the early worms were by and large released by accident while testing/learning.

The entire 'China Shock' story is badly misunderstood, and usually oversold.

Here are two graphs of manufacturing % of GDP and employment. Both are basically a straight line down after WW2. China entering the WTO in 2001 caused no change in this trend.
