Haven't thought about it that way but that is actually insane... so by depriving myself of 2 hours of sleep every night, my brain and body miss out on 730 sleeping hours a year.
That is a full month of time, but measured in actual nights it is closer to three months of sleep I never get.
i can't believe it, i literally can't believe it. i'm running the numbers over & over, typing it into the calculator different wats, even asking Claude to check my math. i absolutely cannot believe that doing something 2 hours a day equals one month per year. how is that possible
Usual asleep 04:08. Usual wake 10:42. That is my last 7 nights.
I love the peace and quiet of the night. It is the only time I can concentrate for hours without being torn in all directions. "Get some sunlight." "See some friends." "Go outside the house."
My real problem is that I am still not willing to give up the daytime. If I slept as long as my body wants, I would wake up at 2 or 3 in the afternoon. So I force myself up at 9, sometimes 10. If I get up after 11, it means I fought the snooze button for over an hour and lost.
How do other self employed night owls handle this? Did you accept losing up to 50% of your daylight, or did you tame your inner owl? If the latter, how?
Day 2 of 30 and I did not post anything.
Not because I had nothing. https://t.co/6w4YkdEvuu went live, the post was written, it was sitting there ready to go.
I just avoided X for the whole day. One version of social anxiety, about posts that almost nobody is reading yet. Kinda funny when you write it out.
Avoidance at its finest. Which is the exact thing this month is supposed to be about, so here I am writing this instead, just to have posted something.
@marclou@alexwestco I read that 15 years ago in my first year studying abroad and still remember how it impacted me. I think it's time to give it another read
@marclou@levelsio How do you decide the "and I quit even faster" part? 60 repos in 10 months and I have never properly quit one. I keep telling myself I haven't even started it properly yet, so how can I quit it.
Ok. First real post in 13 years on here. Desperate times deserve drastic action, so here goes.
The facts: 10 months of building things with AI. 60+ repos. 45 of them touched in the last 30 days. 14 are basically done. Released: 1. And even that one I barely pushed.
I always wanted to be my own boss. Last year I took all my courage and quit my job to give it a go. Since then I have been putting stones in my own way and making it super complicated the whole time. Every time I think about launching, my head goes "no, this needs to be added first" or "what if there's a bug I didn't catch". Sounds reasonable. But when I dig a bit deeper, it's always the same thing underneath: fear of being judged or laughed at for what I build. So every time something gets close to ready, I start a new project. 60+ times. Worked great for avoiding judgement. Worked less great if you have bills to pay.
I've followed the build in public people for a long time without ever posting. @levelsio, @robj3d3, @marclou, @jackfriks and many others just put themselves out there every day. I've always admired that but also always wondered: did you ever have this phase? Sitting on a pile of finished stuff, throat closing at the thought of hitting publish? Or did you simply skip that?
Anyway. The deal I made with myself: 30 days, ship one thing every day and talk about it here. Doesn't have to be a new app every day. A launch, a landing page, a feature, a marketing campaign. Something a stranger can see or use. Mostly it will be me finally releasing things that sat at 90% for months.
If I don't make something happen in these 30 days, it might be time to go back to being a European worker bee. Turns out building stuff is not enough. So this is the last (and actually also the first real) try and I'll do it in public because that is what scares me most.
I've read Seneca's quote "we suffer more in imagination than in reality" hundreds of times in the past 15 years but never really took it to heart. I've been suffering in imagination for 10 months. Time to check the reality.
Day 1: this post. It went out through a cross-poster I built months ago that had never sent a single post until now.
If you also have a folder full of almost finished things, come along.
the "try" part is where it breaks for a lot of us. 10 months with claude code, 60+ repos, 1 launched, 0 really actively pushed with full effort.
building is easy now, being looked at is not.
was there ever a version of you that sat on a pile of unshipped stuff, or did you put yourself out there and start in public from day one?

@bryan_johnson It might sound ridiculous but that is one of the main reasons I’ll be setting up openclaw this week. I want to stay up-to-date but without giving the feeds a chance to hypnotize me
One thing I’ve never understood about Onlyfans is you CAN make enough money without torching your body count.
You can have 1 boyfriend, or 0, and take photos and sell them.
Sure it might make less but it still beats an honest job right?
There is zero need to get ran through and buttfucked and call it “collaboration”.
It’s the nail in the coffin of a happy future.
Greed and poor decision making, the fallout and consequences from this are usually well deserved.
