I was brought to tears while walking to work this morning.
I decided to write about it, and what came out was a love letter to myself, to computers, to The Soul of a New Machine, to @bcantrill and @ahl's Oxide and Friends, and to love itself.

Taking shortcuts with AI instead of doing the work to deeply understand the problem and therefore denying yourself creativity for a solution is a recipe for disaster.
Too many companies are looking for a silver bullet. Just do the work.
Relive the magic of #rustconf through pictures! Thanks again to all the Rustaceans who attended #rustconf24 in Montreal and online this past month. We can't wait to do it all again next year 🧡

At @thesysteminit, we've been fine tuning the observability story for our distributed system to allow us to understand what is happening internally - we finally hit that key point yesterday of being able to trace across the service boundaries and across systems interacting with NATS. At any point, we can turn the tracing level up and get details data that look like this. This level of understanding is so key to being able to tune the system!
@algo_luca@stack72@thesysteminit It takes a minute to set it up, but so worth it. We're using a lot of NATS and this is how we're propagating via NATS message headers (very similar to HTTP headers) https://t.co/CnwEBAKWjR
Distributed tracing can be *so* hard to get wired & then tuned to appropriate levels. But once everything's connected...it's an unbeatable advantage
@grhmc While this isn't a solution, I've often found myself mining ideas and patterns out of Rust stdlib (often in `std::io`). I agree that trying to compile as much as possible on the different targets feels good and future-focused
It’s so great to see what @adamhjk of Chef fame and his amazing team (which includes @nickstinemates@stack72) have created at System Initiative!
What struck me: we all know how difficult it is to do things when cloud feedback cycles are 5-20 minutes.
They create an IDE-like environment where you can get fast feedback for changes, modeled on the infrastructure you have. You can quickly visualize and make the changes you want.
This is the way.
Kudos!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Of course we’re also incorporating our #AI/#ML approach to traces.
To accelerate the development of Adaptive Traces, we’ve acquired TailCtrl, founded by @portertech!

This blog from @thesysteminit is best-in-class writing for developer tools. It: 1) names the pain point, 2) discusses previous attempts to solve the problem, 3) explains why their solution is novel, & 4) the voice is authentic - they built for themselves. https://t.co/ZvlOJWkanO
