12 key points for the next generation of engineers, from someone who’s been in the field for 10 years (writing them on the rush in my uber so maybe I am missing some points) :
- Do personal projects. Become unique. Do everything you can to demonstrate your capabilities and your unique perspective. Builders now need to have a taste for products.
- You are only limited by your imagination. Show what you can achieve without someone telling you what to do or how to do it.
- Build a portfolio website. Showcase your projects.
- Work on your storytelling skills.
- Explain what you do , what you learn, your journey , to your family, friend , online. We do not teach engineer enough to be able to explain what they do
- Define where you want to be in 5 years and figure out how to get there in 3 years.
- Consider moving to a new company every 2 years max.
- Do not get stuck. Be agile, mobile, adaptable. Be a ninja.
- Always keep learning. Stay up to date with the state of the art.
- Never consider yourself an expert in anything. Instead, strive to become an expert in everything until you find a particular field where you can become the best.
- Use every tools available to not get in the loop where you have to demonstrate your technical skills. At the end only the product matter.
- And finally, always have fun!!! We are living through the Industrial Revolution of our century with AI.
Anymore advice folks ???? Please share ! The young generation are looking for advices !
why aren’t the robots working in the mines and oil fields and handling toxic chemicals or picking plastic out of the ocean? why are they writing emails and making powerpoint presentations? what the hell are we doing
After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI?
I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev
• 20-200x faster
• 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free)
• Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions
AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution

AI is probably the biggest prisoner’s dilemma we’ve ever created. Everyone knows slowing down might be safer. But if OpenAI slows down and Anthropic doesn’t, OpenAI loses. If the US slows down and China doesn’t, the US loses. So nobody slows down.
That’s what makes this so insane. You don’t need some evil person trying to destroy the world. You just need a bunch of people making the rational decision for themselves over and over until collectively we’ve raced somewhere none of us actually wanted to go.
It’s a race to zero. Zero cost of intelligence. Zero time between thinking and doing. Maybe eventually zero need for us at all.
You’ve gotta use AI because it’s the future. But also it’ll take your job. But also it’ll create a paradise on earth and solve most of our problems. But also it’ll end humanity soon. But also you’ll get left behind if you don’t use it right now.
