Just got sick when I realized that there was a massive fire set early this morning (Jan 7th) in DTLA at Hope & Pico which occurred at approximately the SAME TIME as the Palisades fire.

Strangely, this is directly adjacent to where another huge fire occurred the day after Christmas (1.5 weeks prior) at the famous Morrison Hotel. I imagine most people were too busy celebrating Christmas to even hear about it.

Attached here is an exclusive video of the DTLA Morrison Hotel fire, an exclusive photo showing the damage from both fires (Hope/Pico damage circled in red) and news articles about both.

Hard Questions: Did the same entity start BOTH fires to divert resources so they couldn’t effectively combat the Palisades Fire before it became catastrophic? CBS said over a hundred firefighters were busy battling the DTLA fire this morning. Was the fire on the same DTLA block 1.5 weeks ago the “test” fire for the one set this morning?

Oh and apparently someone has been trying to develop that entire Hope block where the fires occurred for years but that would be extremely difficult to get approved due to the historic buildings. It’s giving Maui Fire land grab vibes imo.

After millions of views spreading lies about the Palisades firefighters lacking water because of regulations, the boring truth comes late like usual and wont be shared. Here it is:

1 - Reservoirs and water tanks were at normal levels and completely full before the fire.

2 - All 114 city water supply tanks were fully stocked pre-fire.

3 - A 15-hour surge at four times normal demand reduced water pressure.

4 - High demand at lower elevations slowed refilling tanks at higher elevations.

5 - This unprecedented fire was fueled by 8 months of no rain and 85 MPH winds. Water is being brought in continuously.

6 - Even if, like Trump claimed, the protection of the Delta Smelt caused over regulation by California, it's the FEDERAL Endangered Species Act that requires the protection of endangered species like the Delta Smelt and their habitats, not Gavin Newsom or California.

You can keep telling yourself this, but you're simply wrong. I'm a left-leaning liberal who's fiercely anti-authoritarian, and if you couldn't deduce that from my work you haven't understood a word of it.

I'm not an ideologue. I mistrust ideologies. I've never met an ideologue who wasn't prepared to deny a bit of inconvenient truth to keep their world view intact and I include ideologies with which I find myself in broad sympathy. On the other hand, I am an idealist. I believe in human beings. We are undeniably capable of terrible acts, but the evidence is that we are astoundingly collaborative and mutually supportive, especially when times are hard.

My values haven't changed; what's changed is the political landscape. What was once my natural home (a pragmatic centre-left party focused on dealing with economic disparity, championing social liberalism and equal rights) is now dominated by an illiberal, identity-based strain of politics I consider elitist, harmful and out of touch with the day-to-day concerns of regular people, particularly women (and I've still lived more than half of my life as a non-wealthy woman, and some of that time was spent in poverty).

There are women with whom I make common cause in the TERF wars I disagree with on other things. Within obvious limits (sucking up to literal Nazis) I don't particularly care about their personal politics. The reality is that there's currently an assault on women's rights unparalleled in my lifetime, and it's coming from both left and right. If ever there was a time for women across the political spectrum to come together, it is now.
