One last look at Earth before we reach the Moon.
This view of the Earth was captured on April 5, the fourth day of the Artemis II mission, from inside the Orion spacecraft. The four astronauts will reach their closest approach of the Moon tomorrow, April 6.
Following the successful @NASAArtemis translunar injection burn, the Orion capsule’s communications have once again transitioned from the Near Space Network to the Deep Space Network.
This is one of many planned comms handovers on the crew's journey around the Moon. 📡
Which way to the Moon?

Signal acquired! 📡
Engineers at @NASAJPL have confirmed that the Orion spacecraft is communicating with the Deep Space Network. For the first time in over 50 years, we’re receiving a signal from a spacecraft carrying humans toward the Moon.

Gary Gygax was in my pantheon of heroes as a teenage D&D player, but I really didn’t know much about him before reading this book. The closest I got was asking Margaret Weis, one of the Dragonlance authors and an acquaintance of my father, about him on the phone when I was 13.
The broader impact of D&D (the games at Id Software were briefly mentioned near the end) far exceeded the financial returns for him, and his road was pretty rough, but it sounds like he settled into a pretty good place as “king of the nerds” by the end.
Dying at 69 after a lot of poor health is a reminder for those of us in our 50s to take care of ourselves.

@ID_AA_Carmack Most of this platform is now just engagement bait. It’s all polarizing and hyperbole. There’s little substance left worth being around for
It may be my 1993 NASA study of how to build a moon base may be helpful now for our permanent presence on the moon. I wrote my novel “Back to the Moon” out of frustration and then my follow-on “Crater” series. I have long had my eye on seeing a “Coalwood” style of community on Luna.

We have a number of stray cats in the neighborhood, and it is going to freeze in Texas tonight, so Trista put out an electric blanket for them.
Watching them circle around it, only touching with one paw at a time, reminds me of RL agents in training, where you want to yell “Oh, come on! You saw that state five times, Do The Right Thing!”
One cat had a good initialization seed.
