One of the most underrated marvels in semiconductor fabs is the vacuum pump.
A high end dry vacuum pump can spin at 90,000 RPM, operate 24/7 for years, maintain ultra clean vacuum environments, survive corrosive process gases, and hold tolerances measured in microns.
These Turbo Molecular Vacuum Pumps cost $10,000 to $25,000+ per unit.
Without them, there are no chips, no AI GPUs, no smartphones.
The semiconductor industry isn't just about EUV lithography. It's also about thousands of invisible engineering masterpieces quietly running in the background.

#PublicationAlert! A recent paper describes seven new species of Lepidonotopodini #scaleworms from deep-sea chemosynthetic ecosystems, including some samples collected by #EVNautilus in the #Galapagos in 2015. Read it in Marine Biodiversity here: https://t.co/h3mUCXCxqm
Wait for it .... 11 seconds and BOOM! Some breathtaking footage from Fuego 🇬🇹 and

in 1969, Miles Davis & Jimi Hendrix were planning to record an album together with Tony Williams on drums. they sent a telegram to Paul McCartney asking him to play bass on the record, only for Paul's rep to respond that Paul was on vacation for the next two weeks.
The rep never told Paul about the telegram, Jimi died a year later, and none of them ever got the chance to collaborate outside of a brief jam between Jimi & Miles in Jimi's apartment.
Paul wouldn't find out about the collab request until 2013 after a Jimi Hendrix historian unearthed it.
Preparing for future missions to the Red Planet's surface.
The LAVA team at NASA Ames is developing a simulation tool that accurately models how a parachute inflates when deployed behind a payload moving at supersonic speed.
Researchers tested and improved their approach by simulating an actual supersonic parachute flight test, the one you see here, and compared results with real-world data.
This effort is helping engineers better study how these parachutes will perform on future missions to Mars and beyond. https://t.co/CfUBrrGErj
