Interesting piece. The speculation regarding “imminent” wave of mobilisation after Duma elections in Russia originates entirely from Ukraine and the pro-Ukrainian camp, at least for now.

I guess it helps to create a sense of urgency in Ukraine’s negotiations regarding Western funding. As for the psy-ops component aimed at shaking Russian society, the results are dubious. The pro-Ukrainian camp will have to completely shut down its overwhelmingly dominant dehumanising anti-Russian narrative to achieve anything with psy-ops in Russia. Else, it’s just keeps confirming Kremlin’s narrative about existential war. But what we’ve seen on that front over many years is perpetual self-defeat presided over by far right psychopaths.

The likelihood of the actual mobilisation is discussed below. Putin could potentially achieve Ukraine’s ultimate collapse by mobilising more soldiers than Ukraine can hope to mobilise and extending the frontline, particularly near Kyiv. But for now it looks like he is winning the war of attrition without it.

The “turning tide” campaign has clearly failed as Zelensky’s 40-day “long-range sanctions” period expired. The Russian position has only hardened, with land swaps off the table. Ukrainian milbloggers warn about a looming collapse at Sloviansk/Kramatorsk. What else could the pro-Ukrainian camp offer? What new magic wand aka new level of escalation can they bring about?

It’s the same hopeless cycle for over 12 years now that keeps confirming the conflict’a unchanging overall trajectory with each turn of the screw.
