To truly understand what American kids can do when pushed to their limits, you should watch some of the high school marching bands (especially the ones from Texas). Both my kids have been in marching band.
--They practice on the parking lot in Texas blazing summer all day, getting ready for Fall competition season as part of band camp.
--Fall schedule? Full class schedule, leaving by 5am on Fridays for rehearsals and coming back home after midnight after performing at the football game.
--On competition days, the kids who got back home from the football game at 1am, get ready and leave by 5 or 6am on Saturday to practice. They get back after midnight.
--The one off day they have on Sunday, section leaders go to school to help those who are lagging behind.
It makes me cry to see them do so much, but this experience has also toughened these kids up. They are resourceful, respectful (their band directors will kill them if they stepped out of line) and they KNOW they can get through anything while playing amazing music and marching up and down the football field.
The kids have what it takes - we just need to nurture the spirit.
@agentorange960@covie_93 Dude, I'm the least angry person you will probably come by today. We started with no one teaches slavery is bad in Texas. That was the goal post. Now you are saying they didn't hammer on it with your girlfriend. Lol, get over it.
