Scott Pelley responds to Trump saying he doesn’t care about the country: “I’ve never worn the uniform, but I’ve been in combat for this country. In Afghanistan, and Iraq, Kuwait. Been shot at. Spent nights in foxholes filling up with water in the desert. I’m not aware that the president has ever done any of those things for his country. You become a journalist because you love the First Amendment, you love the country. While all the other descriptions the president used about me might be applicable, not that one”
If you’re looking for a design studio to help you invent, design, or market a piece of biotechnology, we’re the best 🇺🇸💧

In practice this is correct, at least for now, because there’s an inner loop of search/optimization and an outer loop of assay dev to run a self driving lab in current form.
But IMO in the long term we’ll see
self-driving lab = cloud lab + AI/ML
where they are modules connected in closed loop for experimental decision making. Currently those decisions are narrow, “inner loop” optimizations such as which inputs to select or parameters to adjust
Eventually SDL will also expand to include the “outer loop” of assay development. Long way to go, though, and specially trained AI will be needed (e.g. Lila)
You know things are bad when the most boring person doing the most boring job for decades has to come out and say, “Stop trying to arrest us for doing math”
We're honored to be part of the White House's Genesis Mission, a national initiative to accelerate science through AI, led by the U.S. Department of Energy (@ENERGY). We look forward to collaborating as we bring our expertise in advancing the intersection of new AI models, autonomous labs, and data generation capabilities. Stay tuned... and for more on the Genesis Mission: https://t.co/JKlkU13oYU
We look forward to joining the #celltherapy community at #CARTCR next week! We invite attendees to stop by our poster presentation to hear more about our targeted LNPs from Aera's Senior Scientist, Joshua Ferrell. See you there!
@dr_alphalyrae We are running between what you consider phase 2 and phase 3 in our automation suite. The AI might actually be the easy part. It is much more difficult to build a robust, integrated, flexible, and programmatically controlled instrument layer, which is what we have tackled.
@bradloncar Lived there for many years…
- the spicy shrimp cocktail is overrated
- downtown Indy is great
- if you need a quick bite, go to Yats. Chili cheese étouffée sounds bad, but it is awesome, trust me.
1/ 🧬 How to Price a Platform in Biotech
Q2 M&A is ripping, Capstan just cleared $2.1B at Phase 1, and something important has changed.
A new market dynamic may be emerging, where optionality matters again.
Let’s break it down with math, comps, and a framework 🧵
No words - only tears of joy. And bow of gratitude to Rebecca Ahrens-nicklas (CHOP) and Kiran Musunuru (Penn) and Sadik Kassim (Danaher) - our amazing partners in designing, derisking, and administering a CRISPR on demand to Baby KJ.
At 15, I left all my family and friends and came to the US , ALONE, seeking a country where MERIT and HARD WORK mattered-not politics. For 30 years, I worked tirelessly, even doing reseach at MIT the day my mother died, knowing she’d want me to keep pushing forward. Today, my grants-and my students’-earned through fair competition, have been terminated for political reasons. The America that once rewarded merit now feels no different from the country I fled.
@aedwards02@shelbynewsad@aedwards02 we are starting to play with a lot of these low cost robots, but agree that the implementation is not easy. The modern, cost effective, robots are not the challenge, the legacy lab software/hardware are.
Happy Sunday to all! This morning, we are excited to share Chase’s work developing a simple, scalable method to assemble 100s-1000s of custom genes from oligo pools using standard lab tools! (Small 🧵 below)
@FealaJake@SynBio1@FealaJake we always meet for coffee in Kendall. @SynBio1 we met for drinks in Davis…what is in the middle? Lunch in Central? Little donkey it is!
