Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met today with President of the Syrian Arab Republic, H.E. Mr. Ahmed al-Sharaa, on sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to its historic and fraternal relations with Syria. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and political independence, and expressed good wishes for the Syrian people in their efforts towards national stabilization, cohesion, peace and economic recovery.
The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations, including through enhanced high-level exchanges, activation of institutional mechanisms, and cooperation in trade and investment, education, information technology and other areas of mutual interest. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to contribute to Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery.
The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s principled support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and respect for the principles of the UN Charter for promoting peace and stability in the region.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the regional situation. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and for a just and lasting resolution of the Palestine issue in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions and international law.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Syria and to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
Treating this purely as a "travel choice" comparison misses the underlying variables.
Pakistan is a nuclear-armed state, and head-of-government security protocols for nuclear states typically require capabilities that commercial carriers can't provide, from secure communications to rapid itinerary changes, and those protections matter even more given that the ongoing negotiations tied to the Middle East crisis need to be shielded from disruption. You can't have a head of government mid-air on a commercial carrier, without secure comms, if a nuclear-related situation requires an immediate response.
Shehbaz Sharif's @cmshehbaz own social media posts on the US-Iran ceasefire talks, including his call for a halt to hostilities ahead of a Trump-set deadline, came at moments when global oil and equity markets were already reacting to the war, underlining how closely tied his office is to market-sensitive developments in a way Bangladesh's and Nepal's leadership simply isn't. Framing this as "same destination, same region, comparable economies" flattens real differences in strategic posture and security exposure that GDP comparisons don't capture, so the three cases aren't actually as comparable as the post suggests.
@tararattaullah I believe it's the Ministry's job to clarify this with proper reasoning on social media, so people making these kinds of comparisons are aware of the sensitivities associated with prime ministerial travel. @pakpmo
With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes.
Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability. We earnestly hope, that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days!

I tweeted yesterday saying that it was wrong of PMLN to have a PTI-Independent defect to them and also that it was wrong of PTI doing the same with PMLM legislators in the past. Many PMLN supporters said the cases were different because this MNA-elect was technically independent. All I can say to that is:
ٹھیک ہو گیا
Similarly PTI supporters commented that this particular MNA that I mentioned had resigned from the assembly, forgetting how and why legislators are made to change loyalties and also the five or six Punjab MPAs that PTI made to change loyalties from PMLN. When PTI supporters forget their past all I can say is:
ٹھیک ہو گیا
I did an interview on Siyasat website and reminded the anchor about RTS shutting down in 2018. Link is here:
https://t.co/qm4i4uIOU4
Many PTI supporters commented that the RTS shutting down was to help PMLN and not PTI. Yes to help PMLN! Again:
Similarly some PMLN supporters are now claiming that the delay in results this time was actually to defeat several PMLM candidates. Yet again:
We can support any party we want and have any opinions, but please don’t make up your own facts and don’t distort history.
Imran Khan enjoyed the patronage of the state institutions for years, and his opponents suffered. Today he is definitely getting the short end of the stick, and his opponents are enjoying the patronage. But this time the shoe on the other foot is very very heavy. Remember however:
As Pakistanis we need to chart a way forward for a better tomorrow. We need to accept all stakeholders as legitimate and work together. And we need to respect the people’s mandate. When should we start doing this: today.
Good Evening 🇵🇰
In democratically tough times, it's important to support the people’s mandate given to their elected leaders and the vision for Pakistan that they represent.
However, the Pakistan Army, your army, our army, serves a noble purpose above all this. If there are any problems, let's address them directly with those in charge, instead of blaming the whole army. They're here to protect us.
Consider the immense sacrifices made by our soldiers. They willingly forego precious moments with their families - the joy of welcoming a newborn, the sorrow of bidding farewell to a loved one, the celebration of a union - all to ensure our safety. They endure the harshest of conditions, braving the unforgiving terrain of Kalgar and the icy winds along the Balochistan border, sacrificing their own comfort for the greater good.
Their dedication and selflessness are unparalleled.
Every day, they put their lives on the line to defend our nation, facing adversity with unwavering resolve. Let us not overlook the enormity of their sacrifices. Instead, let's express our gratitude and admiration for their tireless efforts in preserving the peace and security of our beloved homeland.
We must appreciate their sacrifices. Let's honor and respect their dedication to keeping us safe.
There is an attempt – once again – to cobble together a compromised group
No one has a plan to fix the economy
But even if they magically did somehow, they cannot do anything
because they have lost all trust with their people
they are foreigners in their own land
/end
They obviously sensed the people’s anger, so every action to rig the elections was taken –
except it only made the public madder
So here we are post Feb 8 – the distance between the ruler and the ruled has never been wider
Do they understand how dangerous that is?

IRAN
Shortly before 0600 Hours today, the Joint Staff Headquarters of the #Pakistan Armed Forces ordered lethal counterinsurgency-specific precision airstrikes inside #Iran, pre-authorised by the Government of Pakistan, to preemptively target and eliminate imminent terrorist threats to Pakistan.
These strikes were conducted successfully using Pakistan Air Force fighter jets using stand-off extended range munitions, while they remained inside Pakistani airspace.
The target locations, seven in total, were tagged for a strike after the presence of multiple high-value terrorist targets was confirmed following extensive aerial reconnaissance via unmanned aircraft.
The Pakistan Air Force’s aircraft today after the break of dawn, engaged seven targets inside Iran with precision-guided air-to-ground munitions, where the Balochistan-centric terrorist organisation BLF was based, carrying out anti-Pakistan terror activities. These targets were over 80 kilometres inside Iranian territory.
No Iranian civilians or military personnel were targeted.
The Government of Iran had been made aware of these terrorist activities for quite some time but they refused to cooperate for joint investigation and action.
Be advised, the air-to-ground operation was conducted as a preemptive strike option exercised by the Government of Pakistan against the BLF terror organisation, following a significant rise in cross-border terrorism against innocent Pakistani men, women, children and troops.
The Government and Armed Forces of Pakistan remains fully committed to ensuring the protection of Pakistanis from the scourge of terrorism.
The Pakistan Armed Forces will continue to vigorously safeguard and defend against conventional and unconventional threats with an unshakable and decisive force.
Israel’s military claims Palestinian fighters still operate in northern Gaza but are now disorganised after three months of attacks.
