📆 On 17-18 January 2025 we will host the first edition of the Florence Multidisciplinary Expert Meeting on Renal Cell Carcinoma.
Scientific Program 👉https://t.co/0QVD859WPs
🎬The meeting has been designed by the @AOUCareggi Urologic Multidisciplinary Tumor Board to allow a group of international, renowned #experts from multiple disciplines to meet in a friendly atmosphere and discuss the latest #advances and #controversies in the diagnosis and management of #renalcellcarcinoma.
🎯State-of-the-art lectures, semi-live surgeries, and case-based debates will provide a unique framework to share knowledge and experience, leveraging the power of #multidisciplinary approach to advance the field from clinical, educational, and scientific perspectives.
🔎 The meeting will also represent an opportunity to develop new #research networks as platforms for future collaborative projects and clinical trials.

Study found frailty accelerates up to 9 years before dementia onset and is a key early marker. Frailty was linked to higher dementia risk even when measured years before dementia onset and may represent a target for prevention efforts.

Repeated passive heat treatment increases muscle tissue capillarization, but does not affect postprandial muscle protein synthesis rates in healthy older adults

Yup, we are seeing between 1 in 4 & 1 in 7 older patients choosing a non operative route when BRAN approach used in #CGA based #POPS perioperative services across the UK @GeriSoc@CPOC_News (article about this approach/ impact on SDM/outcomes just accepted -will share soon!)
Resistance training can be complicated.
But the truth is, many approaches “work”:
“All combinations of load, sets, and weekly frequency improved strength, muscle mass, and physical function compared to the non-exercising control group”.
The best program is the one you can stick to.

💡Why is geriatric assessment (GA) important in cancer care? GA offers a comprehensive evaluation of an older adult's health, helping to tailor interventions that improve treatment completion, QOL, and advance care planning.

“Regulatory agencies should provide more comprehensive guidelines for monitoring and evaluating body composition changes, mandate well-designed body composition studies, and enhance post-market surveillance."
"GLP-1 receptor agonists have revolutionized obesity treatment and demonstrated substantial benefits... However, the potential impact of muscle mass loss as now observed remains a concern. These highly effective medications should be used strategically, in a multimodal approach to improve the quality of weight loss by optimizing body composition."

How much exercise is needed to increase life expectancy?
Turns out a little goes a long way.
This new study in over 71,000 people (aged 60+) found:
➡️Higher volumes and intensities of exercise = greater benefits (up to 3.5 to 4.6 extra years for women and men, respectively).
➡️BUT - just a 10 min brisk walk daily was enough to add 0.9-1.4 years to modeled life expectancy.

Nothing recent about high protein 'causing' kidney problems. It's >50yr old hypothesis...
We and others have shown this thesis is incorrect using RCT data and not observational data, which is what this study is.
Still, on message with the fact the original thesis was incorrect. That's not intellectual dishonesty but simply how science works. Maybe you'll be wrong someday? Having the courage to admit it, or not, is where the dishonesty comes in!
