@idiosyncronaut @5813cf9e38904f@thdxr The language does impose several limitations that make it awkward to achieve something similar to React. Even if you only consider working with []T - there’s like a couple dozen extremely opinionated deliberate design decisions there
@mitchellh does this mean we’re finally close to actually being able to call the ghostty API to do things?
Never really understood why there was no interest in adding the main feature devs need (callable API) versus GTK optimizations or opinionated UI features (they’re appreciated tho)
@TheGingerBill@mhtx Unreal Engine 5
how did all programmers collectively fail to overcome OOP without a gc lol
the real question - is it harder to get a solid grasp of and do reliable maintainable C++ or Rust master and still have regular release cycles?
unreal 5 rust rewrite?
@jacobtechtavern @lonelymathmos @paulg that might be true, but the plateau is very real and the trends for average employment duration and the average duration STEM graduates spend seeking in between employment (in particular) are trending in a very unfortunate direction
@thdxr@thdxr sir, is the way vsc-term handles 0-config SSH not worth any +aura in your eyes?
as an avid nvim/kakoune/kitty/ghostty user+contributor I’m 99% sure the nuances+engineering behind vsc-term is completely overlooked by most due to mental ligma or sunk cost fallacy (guilty)
@usrbinkat@ibuildthecloud it is EXTREMELY confusing and near impossible to understand unless someone reads the source code
they somehow landed on a nested functional call + awkward closure + whatever the fuck yield ends up doing besides passing the value into your function
@yacinehmito@ibuildthecloud At the end of the day what can you really use Nomad for, it sits in a weird in between layer.
for example at Roblox they landed up using it to handle the Kubernetes orchestration layer lol, something like WarpStream fits the bill but even that ended up being a sellout play
@GeoCloudChaser@ibuildthecloud plenty run their own Kubernetes, like kubeadm on rocky; even OpenShift is massive
tbh it’s ALL Kubernetes now lol, even something like a ec2 farm many wouldn’t take seriously or would consider a dated approach
@ibuildthecloud@progrium Alpine is so good, can legit just be running in production forever and after a year it all makes sense
Personally I think react from a library perspective hits a solid sweet spot of useful abstractions
raw js is too tedious, and other stuff feels mega mid like ts lol
@HSVSphere have you ever actually used it
share code of reading/writing 10 items from a list LOL
likely you haven’t used kj::anything before posting this, I bet you’ll give up on it completely after that
@CrisprChild@soychotic 100% true, save yourself a meth addiction
read gwern dot net modafinil to be informed and use the lesser of the evils/sustainable version, but convenience likely already has you hooked
