I've started to think of wandering as a core skill.
Reading often gets pushed down on my list because it's more meandering and less outcome-certain.
But just like any interesting neighborhood, there's often that restaurant or interaction that makes it all worthwhile
I’ve never paid attention to what day the mail was delivered before, and @WorksInProgMag did not disappoint.
A new field being invented in real time? ✅
Such a cool reminder that everything around us was made by others and that we can make things too.
Shoutout @s8mb, @tamarawinter, @patrickc, @stripepress, and everyone else involved - keep doing what you’re doing :)
TradFi friend and former bitcoin critic sent me this voice memo. Now he’s explaining why the unique protocol itself gives Bitcoin intrinsic value.
Total 180.
The world is waking up.
I just finished When Breath Becomes Air (and besides for crying more than I have in a long time), have been asking myself, "what if I were going to die before this song / page / conversation / minute ended?"
Each experience has a fractal level of detail if we let ourselves wallow in it.
I tried to literally describe a beautiful breeze blowing through my room and was trapped by the adjectives "cool", "crisp", and "bright". Objective language couldn't describe a subjective experience.
I ended up writing this instead -
"The cool breeze spilled over the windowsill, showing the room's tepid air to the door; not as a bouncer would, but instead with a distinctly maternal instinct. With its gentle, insistent caress, it encouraged what had been too long put off."
I'm working through two different projects right now - one is rehabbing from a serious injury, and the other is making a perfect cup of coffee. Both remind me of opening a jar.
In both cases, trying to really grip the lid and twist wasn't getting the job done, but gentle, prolonged pressure has done wonders. It turns out (surprise) injuries take time and consistency to heal, and time dilates pleasantly when you pay careful attention to how something tastes.
Next time you need to open a lid, try applying gentle force for a longer period of time, I know for a fact that lid will pop.

Is there a better way to describe working on a personal project than "working" on it?
A friend asked me what I was doing today, and after I answered, she was like, "what 🤷?"
