It’s a Catch-22. Our greens are smooth & fast (TifEagle Bermuda) when they aren’t getting messed with, but the normal maintenance makes them less than optimal Mon-Thu & nice most of the time (but definitely not all the time) Fri-Sat

We are indeed under drought conditions now, but have been getting some good rains lately. Plus, bermuda loves heat of course, so it’s nothing like trying to maintain bent down here in the summer

We flipped from bent to bermuda a few years ago. Just had the greens punched yesterday with core aeration. It varies - they did a more expensive water jet aeration last year. It’s once a year for the main aeration. With bent, it was 3 times a year (Mar, May, Sep). The bigger issue is that they are always messing with the greens, pretty much on a weekly basis - verticutting, top dressing, punching with small holes (like ice pick size). I know enough to know that greens take maintenance to keep them growing well and to keep grain from getting bad in bermuda, but it’s frustrating to see how much they get beat up. They are also blind most of the time to giving a crap to what they are doing to the greens when some of the bigger events are coming up

Coming soon: a brand new GSDM website.

I know that some of you were users of the now defunct GSDM website which had replicated the original ESRL-hosted site where you could access the GWO, Hovmollers of AAM anomalies and its forcings (budget terms). I have rebuilt this from scratch using the new CORe data set. The v2.0 site will be MUCH richer, offering AAM analogs, LIM forecasts, regional contributions for AAM (as well as TauM), wind vector maps highlighting which wind perturbations are most strongly contributing to the zonal mean structures, detailed guidance on how to interpret the data and more! The idea is to better enable users to connect diagnosis of the general circulation to what it means for the forecast. A few sample plots below to whet the appetite!
