THE STRIKE IS OVER! We have a tentative agreement. All Faculty will return to work duties tomorrow Monday, September 12.
We could not have done this without all of the support from our Students, the Community, and the Union organizations.
#unionstrong#truemu#educationfirst
As of midnight tonight we are on strike 332/365.
91% were forced to vote YES for a strike.
It did not have to be this way.
We hate to do this. It is breaking our hearts.
#faircontractnow#TruEMU#UnionStrong
Irony is dead - in one of the more Union friendly states of our country, on Labor Day, when we celebrate Unions, a public sector University is forcing its unionized employees to vote to authorize a strike.

This will go down in history as one of science and medical research's greatest achievements. Perhaps the most impressive.
I put together a preliminary timeline of some key milestones to show how several years of work were compressed into months.
#SciArt Tuesday from @ruthmaust: "Geometry, patterns, size, shape, and symmetry are central in the design of molecules and materials. Shown here is a sampling from my notebooks, where I plan projects, sketch out new molecules, and synthesize ideas." #ResearchAsArt@uoCHandBIC
@preisscience Can commercial bread yeast be kept alive indefinitely similar to a sourdough starter? Or would it slowly morph into a "natural" starter as soon as lactic acid bacteria creep in? 🤔
At long last we can share with you our latest opus:
Diindenoanthracene Diradicaloids Enable Rational, Incremental Tuning of Their Singlet-Triplet Energy Gaps https://t.co/wVHKd4Ribt
https://t.co/vlCroXPqDZ…
Super happy this full paper is finally out! Congrats to Josh and Justin for tuning the singlet-triplet energy gap. Importantly, thanks to the collaborators, we actually understand what underlying physical parameters we are actually tuning.

One last reminder to apply to XL-Batteries. If you want to join our Brooklyn-NYC based team, we are looking for synthetic organic chemists as well as chemical engineers with flow battery or fuel cell experience.

So the folks @Chem asked me to write a preview of the C18 cyclocarbon from the Anderson Group at Oxford @HLAGroupOx. It was actually fun to revisit some of the original studies. Check it out here: https://t.co/cSKquweZ9e
A real "super-benzene"! We synthesized a stable [6] cyclo-para-phenylmethine derivative, which shows 30-pi global aromaticity and open-shell diradical character. Paper was just published in @J_A_C_S as a Communication: https://t.co/KXgJxCdooD
"...it's essential we change our eating habits to protect the planet and ensure we are able to feed our growing global population" https://t.co/SDaw2XFute
I'm excited to announce that I'll be joining an awesome team at the @UW Department of Chemistry this summer! Thanks to all of my friends and mentors, @nanohoops, @uoCHandBIC, and @ChemistryMIT, for support along the way.

@Mechanophore This is great: "...make exam grades more of a conversation..." In my experience, it's apparent that students crave feedback and grades are an awful way to start that conversation. @RissaChem excited for part 2!
Check out our first paper on ChemRxiv! A return to my first love #PAHs and #conjugatedmaterials. I’m especially excited to share the one-pot variants that sew 2 different strained intermediates together through an oxadiazinone core to form 4 C-C bond in a predictable sequence!
Inclusion of thiophenes within a quinoidal polycyclic hydrocarbon imparts appreciable diradical character yet retains the large singlet–triplet energy gap https://t.co/MLCFEtu8wX ($)
