have just been advised by my GP that Hertfordshire CCG are no longer allowing the Mirena Coil to be used as part of HRT-Citing its high risk for the age group! They would have no problem if I wanted it as contraception!anyone else experienced this? #menopausing@ThisisDavina
@ThisisDavina@SlnbejJones Yes … I had it as part of my HRT post cancer treatment as we(my GP & me)didn’t know if I was peri/menopausal as radio can impact hormones … had just started getting sporadic night sweats to help me manage everything she suggested HRT - Estradiol & Mirena
@NoonooNb73@ThisisDavina He kind sounded resigned to it - that it was out of his control - he is only young & has been very sympathetic with the other issues I have been going through … I can’t blame him as it is not his doing
@AlleyL@ThisisDavina I am on it & after speaking to my husband am going to go privately as I have other things to manage & taking control of this is a plus for my mental health xxx
@ThisisDavina This is what my Menopause specialist told me : “I think there may be slightly higher risk of perforation or migration with Mirena use as we age. However it remains an important way of delivering contraception, bleeding control and endometrial protection in the perimenopause”
@Marnicks2002@ThisisDavina I am not sure about this … each case is individual based on your own medical history - it’s always imperative to take advice from medical professionals… doing your own research so that you can make informed decisions is equally as relevant x
@ThisisDavina I hadn’t been either & have had 5 of them over last 25yrs risk is there may be slightly higher risk of perforation or migration with Mirena as we age. However it remains an important way of delivering contraception, bleeding control and endometrial protection in peri/menopause
@dsadeh@jackie_nh@ThisisDavina My concern regarding Utrogestan relates to my mental health & the negative impact taking it could have. I am meeting with a psychologist on Friday so watch this space 🥹
@Tiamaria64@ThisisDavina Absolutely it is & all the advice I have been given so far from Menopause Specialists say it is safe to use as part of HRT the alternative is Utrogestan is the alternative combined with estrogen patches, tablets or gel-I am not an expert just a woman trying to navigate menopause
@jeniwuk@ThisisDavina Bless you, that sounds horrific! I have had the complete opposite experience with it.First one 24yrs ago no issues had it removed, had 2nd child had a 2nd one, & then 3rd no issues, 4th 5 yrs ago, again no issues. Hope you get it sorted ASAP xxx
@FryRuth@ThisisDavina This is the same for me,it isn’t straightforward as I have various complications, so I am going to have go privately to get more consistent advice - this is the frustration 2 months ago my GP told me to book in to have my Mirena replaced end Jan/Feb !!! Now it’s all changed😡🥹😡
@cheek2chique@REllenLamb@ThisisDavina To go privately it about £350 I think, I am not sure if you also have to pay more for the removal of the existing one or not …. 🥹
@Therealdonnab42@ThisisDavina Apparently the reason I was given was due to the potential for migration out of the uterus in women of a certain age .
This is something that Hertfordshire CCG have decided - the fitting of all coils is now performed at Sexual Health Clinics & they don’t do HRT
