Lithuania’s national statement by PermRep @pranevicius at the #UNGA First Committee on Disarmament and International Security #UN1C in #NY - reaffirming commitment to arms control and non-proliferation, and standing firmly with Ukraine
🇱🇹 today at the #UNGA#UN1C on disarmament and non-proliferation:
🔹 Condemned Russia's war against Ukraine🇺🇦, attacks on energy infrastructure, chemical weapons use, and planned nuclear deployment in Belarus. Called out Belarus, DPRK, Iran, and China for enabling the war.
🔹 Stressed the importance of the NPT. Backed P3 (🇫🇷🇬🇧🇺🇸) call for strategic stability talks, a Fissile Material Cut-Off Treaty, and CTBT universalization.
🔹 Called on Russia to return the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to Ukraine.
🔹 Expressed deep concern over Iran's non-compliance and DPRK's nuclear and missile programmes.
🔹 Together with Iceland🇮🇸, lead Coalition for Ukraine that has trained 4,000+ specialists and mobilized €153M+.
Lithuania remains firmly committed to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.

Timely discussions in Tallinn. Close NB8 coordination helps strengthen European security, reduce risks, and uphold
arms control and non-proliferation efforts. Thank you for hosting, @MFAestonia
Estonia was pleased to host productive discussions today in Tallinn with Nordic-Baltic Arms Control Directors.
Russia’s continued aggression is shaping the security environment and increasing challenges across our region. As a result of Russia’s actions, European arms control frameworks have eroded and nuclear risks are growing.
In an increasingly uncertain security environment, coordination among close partners matters more than ever. Strong Allied unity remains essential for maintaining security and stability in our region.
The #NB8 format remains an important platform for frank and forward-looking discussions on European security.
At the #NPT2026 Review Conference, #Lithuania spoke on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
🇱🇹 Our key messages:
☢️ We support every state’s right to civilian nuclear energy under NPT Art. IV - and @iaeaorg role in making that right real.
⚠️ That right is being aggressively denied to 🇺🇦 Ukraine. For 4+ years, #Russia has illegally occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP - militarizing it, cutting power, detaining and intimidating Ukrainian staff, raising the risk of a nuclear accident with cross-border consequences. Lithuania firmly rejects any reactor restart.
🚧 Astravets NPP - built by Russia’s accomplice #Belarus just 40km from Vilnius - without full compliance with international safety standards. Unacceptable frequent failures, zero transparency, and now talk of a third reactor.
💡 Lithuania closed Soviet legacy Ignalina NPP - a difficult but responsible decision. We now explore SMR technology, in full alignment with international safety standards.
Nuclear safety must never be a tool of coercion.

Together with @NATO Allies, Lithuania reaffirms strong commitment to NPT. Maintaining credible deterrence and strengthening arms control are essential to enhancing international security.
Today, we celebrate the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania.
We, Lithuanians, are a freedom-loving people who cherish our independence. We proudly take ownership and responsibility for our country, our security& our future.
For centuries, we have unwaveringly defended our freedom& will never back down. Our spirit is unbreakable and our flag will always fly high!
Su Lietuvos valstybės atkūrimo diena! ❤️🇱🇹
Excellent to meet @GLandsbergis with @NickTorfaen today, following my visit to #Lithuania with @LukePollard - proud of our strong alliance in @NATO as well as strong and resolute support of #Ukraine 🇺🇦
Vital we continue to deepen our friendship on a range of key issues. 🇬🇧 🇱🇹
Delighted to meet @GLandsbergis with @SDoughtyMP.
Lithuania is a key UK ally and we’re determined to work with one another to strengthen European security.
Today was also a chance to discuss vital shared interests in areas like boosting trade and tackling cross-border crime.
The UK and Lithuania are working together to strengthen European security.
Pleased to welcome @GLandsbergis to London today.
We are standing up to Russian aggression by investing in national defence and committing long-term financial support to Ukraine.
Thanked @David_Cameron for the UK's ongoing support for Ukraine and firm commitment to defence in our region.
Even with hugely significant contributions from the US, Ukraine still needs more help and we in Europe must keep working on ways to provide it.
An important moment in the battle for freedom.
With the US now set to join the UK and our allies in getting Ukraine more of what they need to win, dictators across the world should take heed.
The free world stands together and stands strong in the face of tyranny & war.
US House support for $60bn funding for Ukraine is a vital step forward.
If Putin ever doubted the West's resolve to back Ukraine, this shows our collective will is undimmed.
With support, Ukraine can and will win.
#StandWithUkraine
An enormous relief, although needed many months ago.
This is lifesaving aid to help our Ukrainian allies, fighting for all our freedoms. It makes all of us safer.

Very pleased to have the top diplomats of Estonia @ViljarLubi 🇪🇪, Latvia @iburmistre 🇱🇻 and Lithuania @LTEMBASSYUK 🇱🇹 writing jointly for @Telegraph to mark the 20th anniversary of their accession to Nato https://t.co/ffKretDxHL
Lithuania's defence budget has grown 302% since 2014. That's a bigger increase than any other NATO member. We've doubled it since 2020 and now we're increasing it even more. This is an indication of how highly we value freedom, not how much we want war.
