@WALTEEZMO@CTVVancouver Yes, the various viruses are quite rampant so it is prudent to protect yourself and others. Can assume that some people don't care or are unaware so having the rule in vulnerable areas is good.
@HankVos1 @GlobalBC MetroVan sponsors fireworks? That is more a city activity eg COV, or even BIA. There were NYE fireworks in Yaletown (done private by restaurant). I don't think $17k actually does much for anything but food & booze to maybe boost morale but miss the monthly community breakfasts
@geo_fed@VancouverPD That was 8 years ago. He is now a senior eligible for CPP, OAS ... The poor fellow might now have dementia so doesn't know he no longer needs to or should be doing what he did when younger. Likely next stop is a subsidized care home. Sad
@perfectrose2011@iamkennethchan Yes, how about a free concert and cowbells or horns or whistles (can be re used spectating athletic running or cycling events). We already have a nice big fireworks show in the summer and drone shows at assorted events throughout the year. Can never have enough concerts!
@alexwh@DouglasTodd@CityofVancouver Who else has the money and motivation to fund the campaign? The only way to counter is to have a significant block of voters that votes FOR those who do not accept developer contributions.
@RRated__ @AMacGregor4CML@SpencerHawkswe1 Some of us have families that escaped from a real communist dictatorship. Canada is definitely not one! Go live in mainland China or Russia to get a real CD experience. Make sure you don't criticize the leadership before or during your visit if you want to leave alive though
@MiconWilliam@iamkennethchan The cost of a bike lane is $20k/km vs cost of a car lane is $1.2M/ km. COV roadways can get very busy and are often like parking lots. Pretty much built out now. Bike lanes and wider sidewalks are about the only practical way to allow more people to get places.
@BillSmith316800@iamkennethchan Hey, but we morons elect them ! They are the best of who stand to be elected. If you are better, maybe stand yourself (unless what you do now is something even more important)
@sinclair_geoff@iamkennethchan The train operator became sick from the engine fumes. Won't be an issue when electrified. About time. Sad about the timing though. Oh well. Can still go there and walk around the path to view the holiday displays.
@DouglasTodd@MetroVancouver Great news for businesses and the arts. Vancouver is a world city. Housing, transportation, health care, education and everything will be solved differently in a rapidly changing future. It will have to. Adapt and prosper.
@mikemoore0057@richardzussman Not the time for balanced budget but need to have plans to reduce deficit when economy improves. A growing economy should only be in surplus or balance at the peak of the economy and maybe not even then. Investing in infrastructure etc is necessary for continued well-being
@Therat4623@DeputyChow Wonder if ankle bracelets that can monitor them (with AI) and allow them freedom to do good necessary things (eat, sleep, wash, ...) but provide alerts when they are at places where they could be doing criminal activities. No need to pay for jailing etc.
@Tybernicus17@DeputyChow Huh? Many catholics have rosaries and crosses. The Sikh "daggers" are just similar religious items - NOT weapons. Also see student chefs with fancy knife sets. None of these folks represent any danger. The criminals with assorted weapons (even tree sticks) can be a danger.
@CHEK_News This is great news for HULLO ferries and the Helicopter and Float Planes that are based right in downtown Vancouver. AEV's & TaaS (see RethinkX) will make BC Ferries obsolete white elephants.
@CTVVancouver The tabulator and registration technology worked well but having to phone in results for every riding from each polling place was a problem especially when workers had different accents and voice levels and shaky phone connections. Need better tech to support vote anywhere.
@iamkennethchan We are on the verge of autonomous vehicles and old technology like trains and streetcars will be obsolete and mostly tourist attractions. Vancouver already has almost 40 years experience with autonomous trains (Skytrain) so autonomous busses on existing routes would be a natural
