yoga practitioners around the world have been shortchanged by cauterised practices that dont deliver the goods. Modern postural yoga teachers are a tortured group, often massively pressuring themselves to pretend to feel a mental health that their practice is not providing…
III. Okay all this to say that I have been thinking about this kind of lesson in various other areas of my life— the fluidity vs urgency/jerkiness of movement as I get water or put away groceries; the moment to moment presence, clarity, and connection as I
We are being asked to feel more and work through our feelings in a more somatic, grounded, embodied, centered, balanced, skillful, resourced way.
We are not being asked to absorb other peoples feelings but to take responsibility for what other people’s feelings bring up in us.

A properly agentic woman actually wants to be possessed
She wants to take her man's last name
She wants it to be known that *this* man, above all other men claimed her and got her to calm her ass down and he's better at doing a bunch of stuff than she is
Living in NYC this past year has really given me an opportunity to challenge my identity in a positive way
Growing up in San Diego, I just always thought of myself as a "so cal guy" by default. How I talk, dress, and show up in the world, so much of it was unconsciously shaped by those environmental influences
Ever since the beginning, I called it paradise, and honestly, I still do. I'll always half jokingly see it as the greatest city on Earth because I take immense pride in where I came from
But consistently, I find myself loving how alive I feel here. What actually sponsored this specific post was a conversation I had with one of my best friends here who also happens to have California roots
We were updating each other on all the things we did this month, and we mutually acknowledged how cool it was to even be able to have this much to say, so different from our talks back in our hometowns
Tried out this restaurant. Biked in this park. Explored this burrough. Took this class. Checked out this museum. Read in this library. Looked at this view
Then, we agreed how literally walking was an activity in itself. Could just aimlessly stroll the streets and somehow look forward to the experience. We seriously haven't felt "bored" since we moved here
What's funny though is that despite how much fun we were having, we'd always add in our own little caveats for the same reasons. We'd say things like yeah but we forsure gotta move back in a couple years. It's dope but it's not the long term move. So down but the beach... the beach bro
Almost like we didn't want to allow ourselves to just fully admit that this place goes hard, as if we were "cheating" on the ideals we and everyone around us previously repped for 20 something years of our lives
Maybe it's not so deep and this is all pretty cringe. But similarly in principle, I was also "finance guy" before. A "numbers guy" before. An "introvert" before. The list goes on of all the other beliefs that took so much resistance to let go of
All in all, I think the lesson here is to just not take yourself too seriously. Not hold onto anything too tightly. You never know who you are, other than someone who can be anyone through curiosity and open mindedness. Always more to see, touch, smell
I get excited about the possibility that I can perpetually learn something new about myself at any given second. Absorb inspiration a moment's notice
Be open to surprises. Relish in your ability to wake up each morning with mental fluidity. Be aware of how external influences can make you rationalize yourself out of what you enjoy
Maybe I do end up heading home to the sunshine. Maybe I extend my timeline to indefinitely. Maybe I somehow end up across the ocean. I have no idea, which is what makes life so much more magical
Going with the flow. Not fixing what's not broken. Embracing the here, the now. Seizing the day, and simply seeing what happens
this moment, a flower blossoms; tomorrow, it will die; is this a tragedy? should it not have been born? would you invite the universe to never have existed at all? let go of all that, and breathe in this moment's honeysuckle scent, fear not it's soontime death, all time is already here and this moment is a gift you cannot keep
there is no big thing in the future that will give you the security you're always grasping for. things do not concretize. this is all there is, this is *it*
“The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover. If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don’t see.”
― James Baldwin
Any meaningful pursuit will always force you to cycle between faith and doubt. You're never fully assured, but you're also never fully hopeless. It's the most uncomfortable state to be in, and feels like it'll last forever, but embracing it is the only way to know you truly care.
