Product Hunt launch was a HUGE SUCCESS 🥳
✅ 0 new leads
✅ 50+ spam emails
✅ A few wasted hours
Not the success I wanted, but I learned something 🧐
Unless you're featured on the homepage, there's basically zero visibility. You have to drive every visitor to your page yourself.
Thank you to everyone who supported me 🫶
It means a lot, and I'll be there to return the favour when you launch 🚀
i got to $120k revenue without doing half of this.
no product hunt. no 50 chatgpt blog posts. no facebook ads.
what actually got me my first 100 users (no bs):
1) dm'ing people who had already complained about the exact problem i was trying to solve on LinkedIn and X. keep it short and simple.
2) replying under every post in the niche for 30 days. not “check out my tool.” actual answers with insights.
3) obsessing over the first 20 users. be it calls, loom videos, or fixing their setup myself.
4) posting the $$ numbers. $0. then $10k. people trust authenticity.
ads and blogs only start working after some users are already paying you. before that 90% of the job is just talking to people who already have the problem.
are you stuck at getting users for your product?
comment the product link and i’ll tell you how i'll go about acquiring your first 100 users.
first 10 comments get a loom video.

Lots of founders are crashing out
A year ago AI felt like an incredible opportunity.
Most of us were able to ship faster, remove admin, and get time back.
Lots of engineering founders were even able to explore marketing for the first time: SEO, organic social, outbound.
Building complex systems that felt extremely productive.
But since then, a lot has happened.
Here’s some of the themes I’m seeing:
AI marketing isn’t working. At first it feels impressive and it looks good but for most it’s not driving results. This is made worse by the fact everyone has access to the same tools. Inboxes are flooded, buyers are fatigued, the economy is flat.
Engineers are fried. Yes you can ship more but for many the flow state has gone. It’s a new way of working and it’s not for everyone. The speed leaves many of us exhausted before 11am.
There’s a feeling of what’s the point? Is my product’s next feature going to be redundant in a year, or a month? Can’t AI do what my business does, better?
SaaS valuations have collapsed. From 3-4x revenue to 1x. There’s a sinking realisation that a large number of SaaS companies will go to 0 in the next few years. Building to exit seems almost crazy right now.
There’s far fewer buyers and far more sellers. These include vibe coders cloning products without the care or craft, contributing to the distribution challenges from people doing it the right way.
Lots of people are trying to make money by selling shovels. This just adds to the frenzied energy.
Build in public stopped being fun. A few makers realised that the new game is attention, and now everything feels insincere and stunt-driven. They are influencers not founders. Changes to the X timeline compounded the issues.
There are exceptions and there are still moats remaining, but the challenges feel existential
I wanted to go abroad for Erasmus in 2015, but my grades were not good enough
I didn’t know how to code and my English was terrible
2 weeks later I found an internship as a front end engineer for a company in Hong Kong
Of course the internship was a disaster (because you don’t learn to code in 2 weeks) and I almost got fired
But I stupidly believed I could go abroad, and it worked
I’m stupidly optimistic.
Every time I start something new, whether it’s fitness, work, habits, I tell myself it will work out, even if the odds are stacked against me.
If a negative thought enters my head, it’s suppressed automatically.
I don’t always reach where I thought I’d end up, but I always end up in good places.
Investing is the only area where I’m pessimistic because the downside is huge.
Apart from that, there’s nothing to lose by believing you’ll win.
If you even slightly entertain the thought of failure, you give your mind a chance to start noticing reasons to fail. But if the only option on your mind is to win, then the world seems to conspire in your favor, because your mind will notice opportunities it wouldn't have before. Become delusionally optimistic, not because it's realistic, but because it's effective. It drastically increases your chances of success.
Motivation is the biggest lie in the world.
We don’t need it.
We shouldn't focus on it.
Or even think about it.
No lasting success was built on motivation.
But motivation kills 80% of projects.
The only game changer is action.
The only focus should be on consistency.
The only skill to master is discipline.
We live in a world that rewards comfort.
And I was one of them.
Spending too much time waiting for motivation.
Postponing work until I felt motivated.
Quitting goals as soon as it gets hard.
But I hated myself.
I thought something was wrong with me.
I searched for psychological explanations.
And how it made me procrastinate.
Searching for causes of my lack of motivation.
While the answer was simple.
Motivation is temporary.
Motivation fades.
Discipline stays.
That's the difference.
A goal driven by motivation is doomed.
A skill mastered using motivation will be forgotten.
We must suffer to learn.
