If you thought 2026 couldn’t get any more exciting, think again.
Herodotus visited the Hawara Labyrinth around 450 BC and called it superior to the Pyramids of Giza.
He described over 3,000 rooms of extraordinary grandeur. Largely destroyed and buried over centuries with the underground portions inaccessible ever since.
An excavation team just made physical contact with the structure and uncovered a megalithic wall.
The labyrinth of Egypt may finally be opening up.
The site sits beneath a ruined mud brick pyramid in the Faiyum region of Egypt. In 2008 a Belgian Egyptian team conducted ground penetrating radar surveys and detected underground anomalies consistent with rooms, walls and corridors covering several hectares.
Egypt refused permission to excavate.
The site has been slowly flooding and degrading ever since from a nearby canal cutting directly through the ruins.

🔹Egypt refused excavation for 17 years
🔹2008 GPR detected anomalies at the site
🔹Herodotus called it superior to the Pyramids

🔹3,000 rooms described by ancient eyewitnesses
Advanced scanning by Tim Akers of Merlin Burrows described what he interpreted as a domed structure comparable in scale to Hagia Sofia in Istanbul, two fully assembled ancient boats near the surface, and a central gallery at least 40 by 100 metres with chambers opening onto multiple levels.
He described it as laid out like a history museum with freestanding objects throughout the galleries and what appeared to be a library.
Trevor Grassi posted confirming the excavation team has made physical contact with the structure itself and uncovered a megalithic wall.
He was there less than two months ago watching the team work. According to the article linked in his post, accessing the labyrinth is the project's official stated purpose.
Herodotus called this the greatest architectural achievement in all of history. Superior to the Pyramids. Superior to everything the Greeks had ever built.
It has been sitting underground for thousands of years.
What do you think is inside the Hawara Labyrinth?
@BlakeALemoine@SFPD@SFDAOffice I'm biased when it comes to TH ... but, have you ever thought of a change of scenery? They are looking for foreign AI talent. Might be fun, just to think about, you never know.

When we first published the Cyberpunk RED Jumpstart Kit, the idea of a "scarcity economy" due problems with the global shipping infrastructure generated a lot of discussion. Some gamers had trouble wrapping their heads around the idea. 1/
