Anyone else think that election night coverage would be improved by the addition of Jonathan Groff in character as King George III?
"DONALD TRUMP? I know him. That's that orange man who tried to sell me frozen steaks."
@tomaspueyo Have you considered that it would have the same weakness as Hong Kong - it's not actually territory of the sponsoring nation?
Cuba does not have the means to reassert sovereignty. But this new city might find itself subject to sanctions that would diminish its use as a port.
@aphysicist Wait, what about this plot makes you think people are pricing in rigging rather than just thinking that Paul had a good chance of beating Tyson?
How do you believe that the left has spent "years and years" constructing censorship machinery in the UK, given that the UK was governed by the conservative party from 2010 until July 2024?
This didn't happen overnight. It took years and years for people on the Left to construct the censorship machinery that inevitably led to police knocking on a journalist's door for something she posted on social media.
These bigots HATE that you might think differently and NOTHING will change their thinking until the Right grabs hold of this machinery and turns it on them.
@Jordan_W_Taylor I want to say it's one of those things you try to walk along at a fun-fair, but that's probably over-estimating the global importance of me having fun, isn't it?
@alexbozikovic What is the 600 to 1,600 vehicles per hour based on?
I ask because the top end is very close to the capacity of a single lane in isolation. But that is completely the wrong number to use in a city, where the limiting factor is usually intersection capacity.
@richardosefton That's a hard battle that we won't win. "We" (I'm assuming you and I have similar beliefs) should instead make the case to both main parties for Britain to work with European institutions. Bringing back the Erasmus program would be a good start.
We really need to get serious about solving this. Britain was where the seed of industrialisation started, and we can be that again. The prize is better jobs, better security, and better quality of life for everyone.
@VeteranGamerUK@Jordan_W_Taylor So how do we get more such British investment? Who, or what, is the British venture capital source that will take risky bets on wild hardware ventures?
@TotherChris Those would be beneficial to have, but I don't think we should con ourselves into thinking they guarantee security. If Russia invaded Poland, would the UK or France really use nuclear weapons?
We need a strong, integrated conventional force too.
@hibasot@DMakanapa @M51_4ever Not on its use. But they have a mid-term veto on our ability to retain it - the UK uses US built-and-maintained Trident missiles as our sole delivery system.
A decision to develop an independent SLBM program would remove the US dependence.
