This morning @humfas our CEO made critical points regarding advancing the mining sector as part of our #30DaysofMining and preparations for #MWC2024
1. We need to better understand our existing mineral resources and focus on the exploration and valuation of these areas. This is a key priority, alongside strengthening the legal framework for mining in the country.
2. It's essential to recognize the high global demand for our minerals and work towards attracting substantial investment.
3. As the government advances in mineral mining, it’s equally important to develop key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and value chains within the country.
4. The Mining and Minerals Act of 2022 aims to boost local growth and value addition---we should be able to have all regulations in place to achieve our targets.
5. Critical incentives to the sector regarding taxation and others can boost investment in the sector.
6. Govt must continue to work with the private sector on issues of legislation, incentives, local content, capacity building among others.

Our Chairman Governing Council @AshabaA has this morning appeared on @ntvuganda to talk about matters of artisanal mining as part of our #30DaysofMining.
He said the use of mercury in gold mining is toxic to both human health and the environment, contaminating water, soil, and food sources. It often leads to mercury seeping into rivers and lakes, compromising soil fertility and the safety of drinking water.
He appeared on the show with planetGOLD's @LynnGitu . Ashaba said, "planetGold is one of our key partners, leading the conversation on promoting safe artisanal mining practices. They ensure that these practices meet sustainability standards while prioritizing safety and environmental preservation."
"We have seen progress at mine sites. Artisanal and small-scale gold miners are coming up with own ways of avoiding mercury use in the processing of gold," Lynn Gitu, planetGOLD Uganda project manager on @ntvuganda.
