After spending a wonderful time in Colombia, we were ready to go back home. The AA flight AA916 was apparently overbooked as they offered us $650 plus hotel and food to postpone our flight for the following day. Even though it was tempting, we rejected the offer. We arrived to Gate A14 at 3:35 p.m. for Flight #AA916 on March 1, 2026. The flight was originally slated for 3:05 p.m. and was delayed to 3:50 p.m. and later on was changed to 3:49 p.m. My brother and I arrived at the gate at 3:35 p.m. because we were in the last group (Group 8). At that time, the AA Passenger Service Agent at El Dorado airport, Caroline Rodriguez, told us that we were 1 minute late and we could not take that flight. We told her that the flight did not leave until 14 minutes later and she insisted that we were supposed to be at the gate no less that 15 minutes before the flight. We told her that nowhere in the ticket purchase contract says that the penalty for being less than 15 minutes before the flight would be missing the flight already paid for. Furthermore, the AA web page says that the doors close 10 minutes before departure. She did not heed to those explanations and not try to accommodate us even though she let several people go in to the plane after that. We feel that AA is overbooking their flights and looking for guinea pigs to cancel the already paid for flights of any passenger at their counter's discretion and save a few hundred dollars of offers to AA in the mean time. They do not care about their customers satisfaction. They did not offer us another flight, nor hotel, not per diem expenses until the next flight available. We and our families will never fly #AmericanAirlines again. #AmericanAirlinesSucks
