به جای بزرگداشت یاد ۴۴ نفری که تنها در یک روز از خیزش زن، زندگی، آزادی کشته شدند، یا ایستادن در کنار بیش از ۲۰،۰۰۰ جوانی که هنوز با پیگرد، شکنجه یا اعدام مواجهاند، دانشگاه جورج واشنگتن تصمیم گرفته با دعوت از سخنرانان جنجالی و انتخابهای شرمآور، توجهها را منحرف کند.
یکی از سخنرانان این مراسم، سینا عضدی است که طبق اسناد رسمی دادگاه، در سال ۲۰۰۸ به جرم مرتبط با فحشا محکوم شده است. در آمریکا، چهرههای عمومی، بهویژه آنهایی که از سوی نهادهای علمی ارتقا مییابند، باید در برابر مردم پاسخگو باشند. عضدی نهتنها به دلیل دفاعاش از جمهوری اسلامی چهرهای بحثبرانگیز است، بلکه سوابق شخصی و حقوقیاش نیز پرسشهایی جدی درباره روند انتخاب و ارزشهای دانشگاه جورج واشنگتن ایجاد میکند.
از آن نگرانکنندهتر اینکه عضدی، شیرین سعیدی را نیز دعوت کرده است، فردی که با قوه قضائیه جمهوری اسلامی ارتباط مستقیم دارد. همان قوهای که روزانه چهار نفر را به دار میآویزد، هزاران تن را بازداشت میکند و زنان را با خشونت سرکوب میکند.
در کنار این افراد، باربارا اسلاوین نیز حضور دارد، کسی که سالها است به عنوان مدافع و توجیهگر سیاستهای جمهوری اسلامی شناخته میشود. این پنل با مصادره نام مهسا امینی، تبدیل به تریبونی برای کسانی شده که از قاتلان او دفاع کردهاند.

زنان ایرانی دکور مراسم شما نیستند. آنها پیشگامان یک انقلاباند. و دانشگاه شما حق آنها را زیر پا گذاشت.
