When Student Workers speak out, change happens!
@wsucase worked diligently to collect the signatures they needed to request recognition as a Union under @UAW
The stories collected paint the picture of why a Union is SO desperately needed at @WSUNews#UnionStrong#Solidarity
... and that this often occurs on the basis of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity. Bullying is often compounded in #Academia for those whose identities encompass more than one marginalized community.
Remember that time with the Company said that "bullying" has no legal definition and therefore can't be added into the Union anti-harassment contract?
Ya #MeToo
Institutions need to recognize that they have an #AcademicBullying problem...
That one time when your faculty mentor said that you "owed" him additional time in his lab, even though you meet all his requirements for graduation, because you took a semester off for Parental Leave.
... and the University LET HIM DELAY YOU.

As much as I love articles that point out the fact that #STEM isn't actually a #Meritocracy, I am bothered by the fact that a 2007 report NEEDED to say that "Women have the innate ability as well as the drive to succeed in science and engineering careers"

Just when I thought that it was understood that “I’m sorry you were offended” IS NOT taking responsibility for your actions
I thought we had agreed to “I’m sorry I was rude/offensive”

@_Astro_Nerd_ There are a lot of positives in a PhD journey.
The issue is that when the negative things happen, PhD candidates in the USA are left without options or Adequate University/work place protections.
It is beyond time for a system change.
Anonymous question
“My PI said that he can’t look at my thesis chapters until 2022, but they are ready for review NOW. What do I do? Do I have any power here?”
Anyone have any advice for a US PhD candidate in this situation?
