While you invite Araghchi and Pezeshkian to the UN, the Islamic Republic continues its transnational repression of Iranians abroad.
Regime-linked networks reportedly photograph and identify refugees, dissidents, and Woman, Life, Freedom protesters, putting them and their families in Iran at risk.
This is not about whether the Iranian opposition is “united.” It is about the security and sovereignty of your own member states.
Article 41 of the Vienna Convention requires diplomatic agents to respect the laws of the receiving state and prohibits the misuse of diplomatic privileges and premises. Article 9 provides for the declaration of diplomats as persona non grata.
Meanwhile, Ali Zarei has reportedly been moved to solitary confinement ahead of his execution.
So the question is simple: why is the UN granting legitimacy to a regime accused of terrorizing its own people beyond Iran’s borders?
The blood and safety of the Iranian people must not become the price of diplomatic engagement.
