世界の大国、特に中国とアメリカ合衆国が、きれいな空気ときれいな水よりも経済的繁栄を常に重視してきたことは、誰もが理解している。トランプ政権は、企業利益よりもきれいな空気と水を優先する法案を軽蔑するほどだ。
ケイト・クロフォードは『AIアトラス』の中で、こうした二枚舌の静かなる支配者は世界の人工知能企業だと述べている。彼らはAIを「クラウド」と見なし、「自然でグリーンな産業の中に漂う繊細な存在」という神話を巧みに作り上げている。サーバーは目立たないデータセンターに隠されており、その汚染物質としての機能は、石炭火力発電所の煙突の轟音よりもはるかに目立たない。
