Would love to show @NSF videos in my grad research methods course, BUT NSF website videos are NOT captioned. NSF on YouTube have TERRIBLE automatic speech recognition, aka #autoCRAPtions
@BrianNosek - pls help: Deaf researchers need well-captioned content https://t.co/z4PBB3L7j2
Welcome back!
#autocraptions
This is funny #subtitlefail! #autocraptions 😂
But on a serious note - why don't all movie distributors ensure human created and checked captions are always added to all their promotional trailers?
I am seeing it more often on social media but wish it was *always* there.
Lol if the robots are planning to take over the world they're going to need to learn different accents. Nice one, @twitter technology!
Read about #accessibility in #physics!
This one took a bit of effort - but it's finally on the @arxiv. Thanks to @kaassamagan @SanderBreur @AmberRoepe @chiphyrunner (and others I cannot find) for the effort in putting it all together. #autocraptions 1/n

Why do stenographers fight against the widespread adoption of #AI and #machinelearning in matters of importance, like #accessibility? One word: #Autocraptions
The worst stenographer you know couldn't have bleeped it this bad.
If you are sharing @YouTube videos, automatic speech recognition (ASR, aka #autoCRAPtions) is difficult to read. Here are instructions to edit ASR—add capitalization, punctuation, break down sentences into readable chunks. TY for improving #accessibility! https://t.co/aRUm56a89f
Looked forward to the @TEDx “Reflections from an #ADA Generation”-@RebeccaCokley
Irony: a #DisabilityJustice talk held in Rochester (MANY deaf ppl)-but video has #autoCRAPtions & ASL terp was off camera 😤🤬
@UofR - fix the captions or ask @RITNTID how. https://t.co/pAN9XrtigB
Let's count the ways ableism creeps in to conference planning.
1) No lead time for poster prep.
This lessens people's likelihood of making accessible content, leading to #autocraptions or #NoCaptions increasing the burden on or excluding participants who use captions for access
This is why stenographers are up in arms about #autocraptions. As for what was said, we are still debating.
If you believe people deserve quality access and you know somebody that wants to get into captioning, tell them check out NCRA A to Z, Project Steno, or Open Steno.
Captioning consumers, if you’re noticing a drop in quality in broadcast captions it’s likely because they’re failing to use qualified stenographic captioners. A recent job posting for captioner was well below market rates.

Like so much this #Accessibility meme!
I was pleased to see it in @merylkevans presentation at #a11yNYC

Hopefully businesses pushing #autocraptions take note. What #justice and #captioning need is #accessibility

We loved hearing from @merylkevans at tonight’s #A11y Lightning Group, a favorite of the night was Meryl’s term “Auto-Crap-tions”. Let us know what you got from tonight’s talk below ⬇️

Why the F does YouTube show the CC icon in their searches when there's no F'in CC but the #AutoCraptions option. Or sometimes NOTHING. WTF @YouTube. Fix this. #NoMoreCraptions
Nothing like correcting autocaptions to make you realize you still have a teensy southern accent. "The odds are pretty good" got morphed into "Y'all pretty good" 🤦♀️ #a11y #autocraptions
Big shout-out to @yogawithadriene for providing proper #captions/#SDH and not #autocraptions. On behalf of all #ClosedCaption users, thank you and namaste 🙏🏻, my darling 😉

@IamAhmedKhalifa @abrightclearweb @YouTube @markdeafmcguire @danfrydman Another one from same clip and same line ... #AutoCraptions
Deaf academics forced to find clever hacks to get around inaccessibility. If you're an NIH funded org hosting a conference #autocraptions don't cut it. Booking #LiveCaptioning (for the WHOLE meeting) is part of the cost of #ConferenceOrganizing. #AccessibilityFirst #EqualAccess
#DeafAcademics, I'm using AI on my phone to live transcribe @SNLmtg where no captions are available.
IPatrick said the beaches would be opening soon, and she asked, "Have you got your bikini ready?" The #AutoCraptions said "bacon" instead of "bikini". I didn't catch what she said at first, but I knew bacon probably wasn't right.
