@DHSCgovuk Try to understand what really causes positive mental wellbeing for children and stop your preconceived ideas which are not based on facts. #stoptheschoolsbill #Clause48 #fairhearing4homeed
@grahamstuart @GreenJennyJones @DamianGreen
@TFerTrog @SecretJPUK The idea that councils - who do not know our children - should be able to insist that home educators use a curriculum (designed as a solution for the difficulties of educating 30 plus children) and methods appropriate to this is insanity.

Thanks to @the_he_byte for the quote and for this insightful article for home educators in fighting back against constant incursions.

VCF has joined @CountChildrenUK coalition calling for amendments due to concerns for children at school, not-in-school and families, amid false claims... #SchoolsBill #clause48 #childrensrights #humanrights
The Schools Bill has far reaching consequences for children and families, and not just those 'not in school'.
Counting Children coalition spans expertise on child protection, data rights, child rights, education, SEND.

Read it and weep. Should the DfE be allowed to do real-time pupil data collection at national level? Or get away with another unnecessary, execssive data grab in the #SchoolsBill #Clause48?
"The DfE cannot demonstrate accountability".

With the #SchoolsBill progressing through the House of Lords, the Counting Children document is worth another read

Contrary to human rights and gdpr Clause 48 of the Schools Bill enables unlimited demands for information about children and unlimited sharing of that information.
Great thread on this π

3) If it appears that education is might not be suitable then LAs must make enquiries.
There is no justification for the surveillance. Children need safety not surveillance. There is no evidence to support the idea that yet more databases will help children.

Lord Nash spoke about his delight at the home ed register. He said that the home ed lobby was powerful and articulate and no-one had any doubt about the ability of those to educate their children at home but to "look at the bigger picture".

Baroness Bennett spoke of the work of @CountChildrenUK coalition partners @teamsquarepeg and @NotFineinSchool and that children who struggle with attending school will be in no way helped by #Clause48
Baroness Brinton pointed out #Clause48 did not differentiate between children with medical conditions and "truants" and asked how they would be helped.
She said data concerns "really worries me" and flagged how open Bill is on who data can be shared with and serious risks.
Baroness Fox of Buckley also spoke of @EducationOther1 and concerns that the Bill would lead to an undermining of the legal rights of parents to educate their children in the way they choose.
#Clause48
Baroness Jones of Moulsecombe speaks on the positivity of home education. She flags the lack of an independent study showing a problem. Says that the Bill shows that the govt doesn't trust children. It crosses a line in singling out a discrete group.

Lord Blackwell speaks about his concerns that the #SchoolsBill goes too far in #Clause48 in enabling LAs to prescribe and collect detailed and intrusive information.
Lord Knight of Weymouth flags that the #SchoolsBill allows "future Secretaries of State to do what on earth they like".
No mention of the power grab of #Clause48
#SchoolsBill
Lord Baker of Dorking is the first to flag what a "grab for power" this Bill is. "Sweeping powers", "unprecedented". "Game changing Bill".
However he is positive about the registers, and does not recognise that his earlier words apply even more so to #Clause48.

So much ignorance, slander and untruths being aired in the @UKHouseofLords right now. Itβs shameful. No basis and no respect for children or parents. Absolutely disgusting. #schoolsbill #clause48 #FairHearing4HomeEd
@CountChildrenUK coalition is concerned about false claims made by senior politicians and organisations to justify this register. The numbers claimed of 'children-not-in-school' and 'roaming the streets' are just not true. This matters.
#Clause48
More scrutiny at the way @educationgovuk has arrived at the idea of needing a register is also required. The voices of anyone opposed to a register have been swept under the carpet in the Children Not In School consultation. #StopTheSchoolsBill
Families are at Westminster opposing the unlimited data powers for Local Authorities and government in #Clause48 of the #SchoolsBill today. Asking @UKHouseofLords to defend #HumanRights to #privacy and family life. New registers not only children-not-in-school but thousands more.

Let's take a look at the dangerous power grab that is Part 3 Clause 48 of the #SchoolsBill https://t.co/RJTtmBpCfE And be very clear from the start: this is NOT a register of only children who are not on school rolls today. It is far bigger. #SafetyNotSurveillance (Thread 1/25)

Its been described across the press as a "truants register".
Home ed children aren't truants.
Sick children aren't truants.
Kids who can't go to school aren't truants.
No to #Clause48 #SchoolsBill
@hiddendepths @teamsquarepeg @Define_Fine_PS @NotFineinSchool
Thereβs broad feeling that this is about an enforcement register, a truancy register. Any child seen out of school is a badβun. Any parent protesting registering a child is a risk. It ignores rights and pits families against punitive authorities. #SchoolsBill #Clause48
