"Are we improving cardiovascular outcomes, or simply becoming better at modifying markers of risk?"
In this Evidence Roundtable, Dr @mirvatalasnag, Prof @lesleejshaw & Prof @DLBHATTMD examine:
🔹 #CorCal Outcomes (CAC-guided #statin allocation)
🔹 #AMUNDSEN (early evolocumab after #MI)
🔹 #TRANQUILITY (IL-6 inhibition)
What is most likely to shape prevention over the next decade?

#CorCal #CAC neatly summarised here by @zaidheartsci
CAC is the cornerstone for diagnosis of subclinical atherosclerosis
Best use is to avoid/delay/de-escalate statins in intermediate risk
Fear of misuse should be countered by education & not wishing for “all the CAC machines to stop working!”
#CorCal #ESCCongress #CVPrev
🫀5,772 primary prevention pts (52% women) → CAC-guided vs PCE-guided statin therapy
➡️At 4.2 yrs: MACE 2.7% vs 2.7% HR 0.99 (95% CI 0.71–1.38)- no diff
➡️Noninferiority NOT met due to low event rates but CAC recommended fewer statins with better adherence: 62% CAC 🆚23% PCE
So, Risk Scores 🆚 #CAC? What’s the best choice?

🫀ISOLEDS asks if OCT beats IVUS for tricky left main bifurcation PCI (I say we just work on CV prevention🥕)
An active approach to statin selection for primary #ASCVD prevention identified a large treatment opportunity and led to over twice as many patients on statins compared to passive (usual care) management. https://t.co/CwhMOxVkjs

Wonderful to see the results of #CORCAL! 🍾
Proud to be part of this important trial of #CAC compared to #ASCVD risk score on identifying statin eligible (e.g., "at risk" for ASCVD event) patients.

@BudoffMd We hope to look at this prospectively in patients randomized to therapy based on CAC first vs ASCVD risk score. #NLATwitterChat #NLACAC #CorCal

Thank you Dell Loy Hansen! Your generosity will help those in our community continue to receive high quality heart care close to home. #CorCal
You can learn more about the #CorCal Study now, but participants will require a welcome letter to enroll. https://t.co/TMmqASYB7l
If you are invited to take part in the study we hope you will. With the help of Utahns we could change the way heart disease is diagnosed and treated around the world.
Preventative care is generally less expensive, the #CorCal study would help identify proper care approach offering the highest quality care at the lowest cost while identifying individuals at higher risk.
