In particular, I think this DAG would be easier to read if you tried to arrange the variables left-to-right or top-to-bottom in time order.

@RolandLangrock Why not start with theory? Create a #DAG including variables with plausible effects on the IV and/ or DV and their inter-relationships; than decide on graphical criteria about essential adjustment. Here's an example: 10.1016/j.annepidem.2005.02.005 @yudapearl #dagitty
