Rule #3: Domaining is no cake walk. No matter how it seems.
Dear friends I really need your words of support today ๐. I am feeling pretty sad, upset and pissed that I am not getting any sales. Apart from the big part played by my own inabilities I think I put my trust in the wrong place. Let me start here -> Among my 1500 names - I have a collection of decent 250+ Ai names that I had listed on DAN to gauge the traffic for a few months before pricing down. I have tried every technique (except put on sedo) including pricing low on the names that get lots of hits etc to get ONE sale - nothing is bringing in even leads forget sales! When many sold word+Ai .com names I was thrilled because I have dozens of such Ai names. Since most of my sales have been on DAN @Undeveloped plus I like their detailed stats I kept these names and all new names (mostly tech related) on DAN. I get at least 30 views on most Ai names. After nothing happened since Jan I decided to move these also to @afternic - thought we are completely in the dark here most of the sales being reported seem to be Afternic ones so in April I decided to move everything to Afternic exclusively. Second reason was I was having a tough time navigating through Afternic when some of the errors are because of DAN landers. There were dozens of names every week that I was finding were misconfigured because they exist on someone elses DAN account. The pages just don't show or worse are sending the stats to someone else's account.
I tried to resolve these issues with the help of Afternic support first, then an assigned rep then DAN support but nothing is budging. Past 3 days 600+ names are down. Examples https://t.co/wP7C1SnkqA, https://t.co/aOzqHLtHfw, https://t.co/a05XMPveN1 to name just a few.
Many such reported sales were on @squadhelp but I was hesistating to put more names there since I got only one sale from them in the past year. Plus locking them down to a platform no longer is appealing to me. Honestly I don't mind the 25% Afternic fees if I am able to list on multiple marketplaces that work. Squadhelp/Atom standard listings worked for me for a while when I had ample time to devote to Domaining. I think that is the most underplayed point in selling domains - it needs tremendous time from us.
With me juggling writing my domaining book, gearing up for my domaining talkshow, 3 other domaining projects and my other creative outputs I am finding it super draining to handle everything decently let alone well. I keep feeling discouraged by domaining and just wanted to share that. Not dissing these big companies at whose mercy we seem but Why is this business so unsure? keeps going through my mind. I am now even doubting my confidence to teach and speak on domaining through my book and under development sites like https://t.co/UG8opiJCZv https://t.co/OeYpPq49II https://t.co/7ikDgBylwK https://t.co/plNtmOOnmN etc.
Thanks for reading so far. What do you suggest I do? I have been thinking maybe I have far too many domains to be able to do justice to them. Should I start selling them in fire sales so to keep the portfolio going? I was already muling doing some auctions to raise money for my projects. Do I run individual auctions or bulk ones? Since Jan I am exclusively dependant on Domain Sales for my income so you can imagine how hard it is on me especially mentally. I know I will ๐ฏ pull through and make my breakthroughs as I always do, but I just wanted to share my thoughts and get your feedback. We are stronger when we support each other as a community and maybe I will become the poster child for it. ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฆ
