That’s a wrap on our #DeepFieldWeek! 👋
Thanks for following along on our “deep” dive into deep field images and how they’ve shaped our understanding of the universe. We’ve gathered all that content here, if you want to catch up or look back! https://t.co/tgUJYHBHfG
We’ve learned so much about our universe from deep field surveys captured by observatories across many wavelengths of light. 🌌 We can’t wait to see what @NASAWebb and @NASARoman will add to our understanding of the cosmos!

As you can see, the deep field story is only beginning and there's a lot to look forward to.
Thanks for following along during #DeepFieldWeek! You can learn more about Hubble’s deep fields here: https://t.co/ID7YJUkfXT

One of Hubble’s greatest legacies is its deep field images. But as much as we’ve learned from them, the deep field story is only beginning.
As we wrap up #DeepFieldWeek, find out what comes next in this thread ⬇️
So, how can a telescope the size of a school bus orbiting 340 miles above Earth uncover mind-boggling deep field images of our universe?
We’re here to break it down. Explore Hubble’s step-by-step guide to viewing deep fields: https://t.co/vJtRFKvlyt

You could say every week is #DeepFieldWeek for Roman. 😎 The Roman Space Telescope will build on @NASAHubble’s deep field legacy with its extraordinary ability to survey huge areas of the sky with the same precision as Hubble!

Time for a trip down memory lane…
🧵 Follow along this thread for a mini #DeepFieldWeek history lesson!
First up, we have the original Hubble Deep Field. Imaged in 1995, it took 10 days of exposure time to capture. In it, we could see about 3,000 galaxies! (Portion below)

After @NASAHubble captured its first deep field image, @ESA_XMM stared at the same patch of sky, collecting X-ray light. 🛰 This image reveals young galaxies powered by supermassive black holes and other intriguing objects! More: https://t.co/S6UwE37FDB #DeepFieldWeek

Let’s go behind the scenes 🎬
Our video producer Paul Morris noticed a pattern in answers to the question: “What’s your favorite Hubble image?”
Spoiler alert – it might have something to do with #DeepFieldWeek.
Quantas galáxias há no Universo? 🤔
O Campo Ultra Profundo do Hubble permitiu estimar o n° de galáxias no Universo observável: cerca de 200 BILHÕES.
E pode ter ainda mais!
Um estudo de 2016 sugere que esse n° pode ser 10x MAIOR! 😱

⏪ Back in time.
Like time machines, deep fields let us see back to the early universe. Because the light we see here took billions of years to reach us, we see these galaxies as they were billions of years ago.

Our now-retired Spitzer Space Telescope completed multiple deep surveys in infrared light, sometimes in collaboration with other missions. @NASAHubble and Spitzer found “big baby” galaxies who grew up superfast in the early universe 👶: https://t.co/jNYZqTYBig #DeepFieldWeek

Let's talk about how huge our universe is. 🤯
The Hubble Ultra Deep Field led to an estimate that the observable universe contained at least 200 billion galaxies. But research from 2016 suggests that number is at least 10 times too low: https://t.co/FKh3WTJlKU

It's #DeepFieldWeek. This Infrared #DeepField by the Spitzer #Space #Telescope is probably the most impressive look into the enormity of the universe's #Space and time. #Science

This is probably the most humbling & awe-inspiring image of the #Universe I know.
It's an infrared image by the #Spitzer #Space #telescope, as wide as the full moon.
The dots aren't stars.
They're galaxies.

ICYMI: @NASAHubble's Ultra Deep Field (HUDF) was the topic of our April 2021 #AskTheAstronomersLIVE chat, and included a 3D fly-through of the HUDF.

You're hearing 13 billion years' worth of data. 👂
Galaxies in this Hubble image are represented in sound! We hear a note for each galaxy when it emitted the light captured in this image; the farther the galaxy, the longer it took for its light to reach Hubble.
