@juliaellenbaak I think that would be really interesting! I'm curious where the gulls that are coming into the bay are from, our kittiwakes are likely from Cape Resurrection but I'd love to know where the glaucous-winged gulls and short-billed gulls are from. #WSTC8 #DistSesh

Frequent hotspots included areas where there is fish 🐟processing effluents and areas where freshwater enters the bay, especially during spring. These areas seem to represent seasonal and year-round #foraginghotspots concentrating gull activity. #WSTC8 #DistSesh (3/4)
The Alaska SeaLife Center conducts a year-round seabird survey in #GulfofAlaska, which has experienced a major marine heatwave and other changes in the past decades. We present findings for 3 most common gull species as basis to #monitor for future changes. #WSTC8 #DistSesh (1/4)

@juliaellenbaak Thanks, Julia! For my PhD, I am going to expand to look at oil spills, windfarms, and hopefully vessel traffic during the breeding season and during migration. My current feeling is that most of the population loss happens during the winter. #WSTC8 #DistSesh

PhD work investigates if LESP #personality relates to risk exposure, reproductive success, & survival. Redeployments of tracking devices during foraging & migration allow us to assess individual specialization in movement behaviour of LESP for the first time.
