Italy is expected to take over JFC Naples, responsible for NATO’s southern flank, while the UK will assume JFC Norfolk, covering the North Atlantic. Germany and Poland are also set to alternate leadership roles on of JFC Brunssum on the estearn flank. However, Washington will retain control over NATO’s most strategic military architecture. The U.S. will keep SACEUR, the top Allied command in Europe, and is set to take over MARCOM, while already leading AIRCOM and LANDCOM. In practice, this means the U.S. will continue to dominate NATO’s air, land, and maritime capability planning, as well as the Alliance’s core command-and-control and tech infrastructure.
