Actually by building #HS2 they are on the right track (no pun intended) about #Nature and #Environment.
Unfortunately they were wrong to cancel the #EasternLeg & even more badly misguided to push through #RIS2 #RoadBuilding schemes which make #ClimateCrisis worse, not better.

I agree with your point we need as much going by rail rather than road as possible @wafu23RN.
#HS2 is at least a substantial part of that by releasing capacity on many of the main trunk routes in the south of #England, and especially the #EasternLeg freed up #ECML capacity.
The proof of the value of #HS2 has most surely been shown in the cancellation of the #EasternLeg by the #IRP (#TheShappsAxe). It is a massive #RailBetrayal for the north, again PROVEN by the admission below that '...we don't know how it'll work on the ground...'

Train performance in July to Sept 2021 generally remained better than before the pandemic.
