The rising tide of unexplained abductions and enforced disappearances in Tanzania, highlighted by the case of activist Deusdedith Soka, demands urgent national and international condemnation. A thriving democracy requires open civic space where activists, leaders, and everyday citizens can speak out without fearing for their lives. Kidnapping individuals to silence dissent or curb grassroots activism creates a toxic culture of fear that suffocates national progress. We strongly condemn all forms of state-linked or unchecked criminal abductions that bypass the formal judiciary. The silence or slow response from authorities only fuels public anxiety and erodes trust in public institutions. We demand accountability, a thorough and transparent investigation into Soka’s disappearance, and his immediate return to his family. Liberty cannot survive in the shadows of forced disappearances #FreeDeusdedithSoka
