While the G7 statement embraces the goal of #globalzero and recites a familiar list of worthwhile ambitions, none acknowledge the fierce urgency of now. The world deserves more than thoughts and prayers for nuclear disarmament.

Nuclear weapons are a source of tremendous global danger. Deterrence doesn't keep the peace and provides no guarantees against nuclear war. Only disarmament can do that.

Literally no one is suggesting that only Western nations scrap their nuclear arsenals. Nothing ambiguous about #globalzero. We all go down together. Phased, proportionate cuts with rigorous verification. Hard, but not impossible.
Imagine if Russia at this point were the only power left with nukes. We know how easy it was to control Pakistan and North Korea. Having faith in Iran not to cheat and acquire a nuke …..

Kriget i Ukraina är en vändpunkt - alla måste intensifiera arbetet för en värld fri från kärnvapen.
Tillåter vi kärnvapen att få finnas kvar hos galningar som Putin och spridas till allt fler stater i konflikt, så är det bara en tidsfråga innan de används.
