Proof that inspiration can come from anywhere. We take it for granted that chocolate bars are molded into segments, so that we can cleanly break off a portion. It's unknown who, precisely, came… https://t.co/2ev2zicesj #Innovation #Design #UXDesign #Inspiration #HistoryOfDesign

A lot of designers jumped into design without knowing the history of digital design.
Learning that would widen your understanding on how the devices we interact with came to be of very good use today.

Realise I don't post enough stuff to do with the #vintage - #fashionhistory side of my professional/academic life. To remedy: yesterday I finally got to meet Biba founder, Barbara Hulanicki - a gracious being + true design legend #biba #vintagefashion #60s #70s #historyofdesign

Besides our extensive reference collection on #bookhistory (> 75,000 titles), our heritage collection also includes works on this theme. E.g.: ‘Traité de l'imprimerie’, printed in 1798-1799 (R3B4161, provenance Henri Omont). #rarebooks #tomorrowsresearch

There's a hole in my page, but I don't care; Psalter of Margaret II of Flanders (Brugge, OB, MS 820)

Last week we finally completed the photography of the fragments at the Brussels Conservatoire. They're now all on Fragmentarium: adiastematic chant, a collection of extracts from musical treatises, illuminated chant MSS from Italy and France and more. https://t.co/hvPBBR2wDY

"The 1930s were the Golden Age of cheap silver." Did Wendy Kaplan say this? If not, then who? I can't find the citation info anywhere. #italianhistory #historyofdesign #aluminum
It’s the @BritishLibrary’s 50th birthday!
This biscuit (cookie) set is inspired by the British Library’s wonderful collections. Each biscuit depicts an item from one of their six core collection areas: stamps, newspapers, manuscripts, printed materials, maps, and sounds. 🍪

Art Nouveau wallpaper from c. 1900 by French designer René Beauclair (1877-1960).

love these scent bottles, much under researched and engaged with area of decorative art that needs more love and attention! So many ways of displaying and interpreting them. #historyofdesign #interestingdesign
We love our scent bottles here at the Harris! But which one is your favourite?

My new ink is healing well. Not fully healed though. Still itches like a bish. 🥰 #ink #tattoo #historyofdesign #artistry #honeycombtattoo

Congratulations @sallybysea This looks stunning! Do visit Sally’s exhibition based on her outstanding research for her @hoadbrighton dissertation on #HistoryofDesign
Lovely late night open evening at @PollocksMuseum last night, drinking mulled wine and chatting Frozen Charlottes! If you'd like to visit, it's probably best to go before they close on Christmas Eve. Leaflets are available free from the ticket desk on the way in🤍

Ooh! When is a Book Not (quite) a Book? In this case, it's a Book Smooth as Silk, woven on a Jacquard loom. We remember seeing a copy, admiring, and turning the pages. #historyofdesign #historyoftextiles #beautifulbooks #wovenbooks
This extraordinary book is not what it seems: It is not written, or printed, but #embroidered out of silver and black silk, using an automated #Jacquard #loom and tens of thousands of #punchcards. We’re so glad to have been able to acquire one for @kislakcenter @upennlib @uofpenn
It's been a long, loooooong time since I've had a small leather volume with blindstamp work like this one. And despite the condition issues, I just couldn't say no when the opportunity came up.

A manuscript copy of The Miroir or Glasse of the Synneful Soul given by 11-year-old Elizabeth I to her stepmother, Katherine Parr, in 1544. Elizabeth handwrote and translated the poem from French to English, and the cover was almost certainly embroidered by her too #Tudor
