A shocking incident has come to light from #Bachimatti village in #Hunasagi taluk, #Yadgiri, where a Gram Panchayat member allegedly abused and threatened a school headmistress after #Dalit community members were seated on the stage during a #RepublicDay event. The accused, identified as #BasanagowdaKenchareddy, is currently on the run, and police have launched a search operation to arrest him. According to the complaint filed at #Surapura police station, #NirmalaDange, the in-charge headmistress of Bachimatti Government Higher Primary School, received an abusive phone call from Kenchareddy on January 26. He was reportedly enraged that Dalits were given equal seating on the stage alongside other guests. On January 25, Nirmala had invited School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) members, Gram Panchayat representatives, ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, and parents as chief guests for the Republic Day flag-hoisting ceremony. On January 26, after the event concluded around noon, Kenchareddy allegedly called Nirmala and verbally abused her. When she tried to calm him down, he escalated the abuse, using obscene language and even threatening her life. He also hurled insults at her husband. Speaking to media, Nirmala recounted, "Everyone, including Basanagowda, was invited in advance. On Republic Day, we followed the seating arrangements properly, allowing all guests, including Dalit members, to sit on the stage. But he was furious over it and started hurling abuses." The incident has sparked concern among teachers, parents, and the local community. Just months ago, another case of caste-based discrimination was reported in Hunasagi taluk, where a family was expelled after filing a POCSO complaint. Local Dalit leader Siddanna Melimani condemned the incident, stating, "No matter how powerful the accused are, strict action must be taken against those who spread caste hatred and issue threats. Only then can we ensure equality in society." Meanwhile, Surpur DySP Javed Inamdar confirmed that a police team has been formed to arrest the absconding accused. "We are investigating the case, and the accused will be arrested soon," he assured.

The residents of a village in #Hunasagi taluk in #Karnataka's #Yadgir district have been accused of boycotting members of the #Dalit community after a 15-year-old girl’s family filed a Pocso complaint against an upper caste man. When the parents - daily wage labourers working in another town - learnt that their daughter was pregnant, they took her to a hospital, where tests revealed that she was pregnant. She subsequently informed her parents that the father of the unborn infant was an upper caste man in the village. The man reportedly refused to marry the girl citing her lowly caste and asked her to have the child aborted. The man further threatened to kill them should any of them inform others about the incident. The girl’s mother subsequently decided to file a complaint at the #Narayanpur police station. Members of Dalit communities in the village said that they were being denied groceries, and other basic provisions in the wake of a diktat issued by the elders of the village, after the girl’s family filed the police complaint. Surpur DSP Javed Inamdar, on learning of the boycott visited the village on Thursday night, and took stock of the situation. On Friday, senior police officer G Sangeetha presided over a meeting aimed at brokering peace between the villagers. However, elders in the village refuted charges of issuing an order to boycott the Dalit community. Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Narayanpur police station in this regard.

Two school workers were caught stealing milk powder and groceries in separate cases in #Chincholi taluk of #Kalaburgi district and #Hunasagi taluk in #Yadgir district. At the Government High School at #Chimmanachod village in Chincholi taluk, the school headmaster caught the midday meals supervisor #Narasamma red-handed stealing milk powder packets in her bag. The headmaster admonished her and later lodged a complaint with the taluk midday meal officials. At the anganwadi centre-2 in #Hagaratagi village of Hunasagi taluk, anganwadi worker #Uma and her husband #Adappa were filmed siphoning off fortified rice, dal, groundnuts, jaggery and chikki, meant to be given to children, pregnant women and nursing mothers. In a videos doing the rounds on social media, Uma can be seen peeping outside to check if her husband has come. In another video, Adappa can be seen carrying a huge sack on his shoulder from inside the anganwadi centre and keeping it on his motorcycle. Uma also comes with another bag which too she keeps on the motorcycle for her husband to take away. Villagers have called for strict action against those stealing supplies meant for children and women.
