💡 ¿Sabías qué? El término #neurodiversidad lo popularizó #JudySinger, socióloga autista, durante los años 90 con el objetivo de promover la #inclusión de todas las personas aceptando así ("embracing") las diferencias neurologicas.

If certain 'experts' like #SBC and #JudySinger want to push the idea that #autism for some is a #personalitydisorder rather than a combination #disability/#neurotype for all, then all they've done is provide a blueprint for discrimination, ensuring all #autistic people suffer.
In my recent blog article, I was crediting #JudySinger with having introduced the idea of #neurodiversity to academia. Looks like that was still too generous. My partner @AutisticInertia did some digging, the results of which are now in an addendum: https://t.co/O0Bg98TtVb
Another important thread about #neurodiversity ”godmother“ #JudySinger's views on #AutisticParents, from Heta Pukki, president of @EUCAP_autism.
I was on the Autistic Network International and autuniv lists around 1997-1998. I don't remember anyone hailing neurodiversity as a new concept. It was just a new word to attach to ideas that everyone knew about. ANI members talked about AC, 'autistics and cousins'.
I credited #JudySinger with coining the term ‘neurodiversity’ in error. I have found evidence that the #neurodiversity concept was fully formed on my online autistic-run group ‘InLv’ as early as October 1996, well before Singer's 1998 thesis.

It's interesting that #JudySinger has been featured recently as 'the mother of #neurodiversity', who 'changed the world', given not just her #transphobic views but her comments and online research that paints #autistic people as #odd, #abusive and #toxic.

For the record: I have taken down nothing, and I stand by every word I said regarding Singer's anti-trans bigotry and her recent appropriation of autistic community ideas. I am 100% confident it would all stand up in court. https://t.co/3fF1vLkaPu

Gender happens in the brain.
Even some aspect of sex may be in the brain (though that is the subject of debate).
It's part of neurodiversity either way.
You CANNOT have #neurodiversity without #GenderDiversity. It is not a thing.
#JudySinger can take her bigotry and shove it.
Nearly 30 years after she coined the term in an undergraduate thesis...

What’s even more sus about this program is when you realise #JudySinger only ever included ‘Asperger’s and High Functioning Autism’ in her original publication on #Neurodiversity
How can a $200 course claim to be neuroinclusive when it doesn’t include most of the community?
Wenn Lawson and Judy Singer on the same autism training programme is an unexpected combination.
Up to one-third of autistic people are nonspeaking, but I'm not seeing any nonspeaking presenters... or are there some I just haven't heard of before?

#JudySinger: The cultish #neurodiversity movement discriminates against profoundly autistic people and pretends they don't exist!
Also #JudySinger: Neurodiversity is my own original idea and it's only for high-functioning autistics!
@E_Marocchini @singer_judy From Judy Singer's book on her thesis: “My thesis made clear from the start that I was only advocating for people with high-functioning autism, (or the Syndrome-formerly-known-as-Asperger) when I argued that Aspies should view ourselves as a neurological minority, and that our...
So, #JudySinger has now called the #neurodiversity movement "cultish" and wants to introduce "#neurorealism" – basically a new label for the same old anti-autistic ableist nonsense.
In that light, here's a little history lesson I posted to Reddit. https://t.co/YTdhjLk9HQ
Given Judy Singer’s incredibly transphobic, racist and ableist views…
I say we continue to use ‘#neurodiversity’ in the way we use it - to include ALL people. Don’t give her the power of separating and tearing apart the movement. She is NOTHING.
#JudySinger
@RadicalLabGeek @lucykhobbs More accurately, #JudySinger coined a term in 1998, *after* years of others developing theory and praxis (starting with Sinclair et al in 1992).
Her 1998 thesis described a movement that already existed. She is now claiming it's all her original idea, and she knows it isn't.
Once again #JudySinger an elderly woman who sparked the Neurodiversity movement. Has been FORCED to delete her Twitter/LinkedIn/Facebook accounts because she dared speak up against #GenderIdeology #GenderIdentity and said no amount of surgery and make-up will make a man a woman.

Dear Judy,
Neurodivergent people have every right to castigate you for your bigotry, whether we're using the term neurodiversity professionally or not.
#DearJudy #JudySinger
Autistic trans people deserve “pioneers” and advocates who respect and value them. You cannot be an advocate for autistic people while simultaneously advocating for the harm of trans people. #JudySinger #Neurodiversity
Dear Judy,
You don't get to use neurotype as an excuse for bigotry.
Sincerely,
Trans Autistics everywhere.
