$3500/hour? Truly outrageous. But I suppose “luxury good” pricing & conspicuous consumption applies. The reality is that rates across the spectrum will rise, further lifting the barrier to legal services when most customers are priced out to begin with. This is #LawLand hubris at its worst, but the blame lies with the corporate buyers from the same obliviot tribe. It’s supposed to be about the customer, not the lawyer. Blame also with the #BigLaw firms in same ridiculous arms race to irrelevancy through stratospheric associate salaries and billing rates. When the “enterprise” is a hotel for lawyers who bill by the hour, you’ve got to have stars—because it mistakes lawyers for the customer. When focused on real customers, you create & focus on teams that deliver E3 value (Effective—Efficient—Experience)

The “complacency of continuity” — another, perhaps far better, way to described #LawLand’s MPR (Massive Passive Resistance) to change, specifically AI — https://t.co/oXILhzsa3v
Right on Target. #LawLand culture impedes necessary change. Raising rates or high fixed fees to sustain PPEP is NOT the answer. Customers will vote with their fees. I’ve said it many times before, the answer is alignment of divergent interests—that’s done with #DeliveredValue
Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy on 5 day/week in office approach. Will #LawLand, with a predominant biz model based on billable activity and neither efficiency nor effectiveness, follow?

@Clevy_Law This would be funny if it weren’t the underlying biz model for much of #LawLand. Only customers can drive change. Demand #DeliveredValue relationships. Time to vote with your fees.
Far more important question is what are the tools doing for the customer? No not for the law firm tool buyer/user, but for the legal services customer. The tools may deliver value to the former, but if not to the latter, they just amplify #LawLand’s #ToneDeftitude

Meanwhile, in #LawLand’s parallel multiverse….
Step 1: Do everything at 120% (and bill the hours for it)
Step 2: Don’t move without 120% confidence
Step 3: Why would we want improvement?
Step 4: We have client revenue sources to serve our interests, not customers to serve
How to win at anything:
Step 1: Figure out the 80/20.
Step 2: Take action at 70% confidence.
Step 3: Use the data to make 1% improvements.
Puts you ahead of 99.99% of people.
@RobertFreundLaw Focus on the wrong things . . .on those that matter, to lawyers, but not to customers. Sadly, so often endemic in #LawLand
In December, when those cheery hourly rate increase letters go out, most of #LawLand moves from current to disappointed—has never really embraced the “good deal” mentality—it’s the in-house buyer complacency that’s to blame. High time to vote with your fees!
Comfortable price increase.
As you increase your price, add more value to your product or service.
Get creative. There are tons of ways to add value.
1. How can you simplify the user experience to make it more enjoyable?
2. How can you overdeliver? How can you exceed what customers expect?
3. How can you make your product stand out from the competition in a meaningful way?
4. Can you add a personal touch so that the whole experience feels more authentic?

@Clevy_Law More counselors, less lawyers. But #LawLand’s activity based ecosystem depends upon disputes for its lifeblood. As LBJ famously observed, a small town that can’t support 1 lawyer can always support 2
#LawLand believes it sells “knowledge” but it doesn’t—it sells activity to repackage & apply knowledge. What it really should sell is judgment—specifically legal judgment applied to both general & specific circumstances. Productize former & processify latter as a service

@AlexHamiltonRad @AdamsDrafting @damienriehl @EdeStadler @andywishart Thank You, Alex, for continuously being the point of the spear — for giving practical advice and solutions instead of pablum — for relentlessly embracing culture and process — for pushing that very big rock up #LawLand’s steep hill in a dark cave! Well done & keep going!

Excellent — but don’t forget, services are products as well and subject to exactly the same framework — many service providers, particularly in #LawLand and it’s #LegalTechLand neighborhood, don’t get that
Product Management is, at its heart, about managing risk.
But the risks at play are not obvious.

And those that use #DeliveredValue will not just survive, they’ll thrive. What’s Delivered Value? Effectiveness, Efficiency & customer Experience. DV=E3. It’s not difficult—indeed it’s quite simple. But it’s very hard because it conflicts with #LawLand culture & biz model

Love concept of #PeakLegalInefficiency! It’s so deeply ingrained in #LawLand’s activity-based biz model that I’m not as confident as @ArtificialLawya—in order to truly change, #DeliveredValue biz systems are the path, but that requires massive disruptive change by status quo

“Non-Lawyer” is part of the lexicon of #LawyerExceptionalism. Ever hear of a “non-accountant”, “non-architect”, “non-teacher” even a “non-doctor”? No? That’s of course because #LawLand is “special”. Whenever you hear a lawyer use “non-lawyer”, ask if they are a non-human, non-leader, non-decider.

Ratcheting up the battle against the legal caste system

Since we're talking hiring lawyers:
I don't want to sound arrogant, this is just my reality.
If a potential client sounds like he wants to "interview" me & compare me to others, I'm not interested. I simply don't have time for that.
And the best lawyers are probably the same.
@ronfriedmann @RoyWStrom Agreed—they’re making same mistakes of this oft-travelled & unsuccessful route—hiring traditional #LawLanders to do traditional #LawLand stuff using traditional #LawLand biz models. None, not one, ALSP or law firm wannabe, has truly embraced customer-focused #DeliveredValue
