It’s Scientific Investigations Week, and we’re highlighting our amazing team! Detectives from the Highland Station collected evidence at the scene of the line fire. Crime Scene Specialist III Shira “thought outside the box” and swabbed the evidence for DNA and located a usable sample. Shira submitted the DNA sample collected to Supervising Criminalist Dennis. Dennis processed and compared the DNA sample to a sample collected from the suspect. The DNA was a match. The information was provided back to the Highland Detectives as well as fire Personnel from Riverside County who also believe the suspect was responsible for fires in their area. This case highlights the dedication and collaboration of our forensic team and detectives in keeping our county safe.
