#statstab #451 Log-normal Distribution – A simple explanation
Thoughts: A simple and useful source for the log-normal distribution, which has many uses (as I will show in 2026 🤫)

10) #LogNormal (C)
- The log of random variable follows normal distribution
- Can be used to model right-skewed distribution
11) #Weibull (C)
- Models waiting time for an event.
- Often employed to analyze time-to-failure data.
@Pakistanomy have you computed tge standard deviation of the #lognormal returns of DOLLAR- rupee currency rate under #PTI tenure?
Because PKR-$ PAIR exhbited a drawdown under your tenure too.

Look what happens when we have a very wide #lognormal (with a big standard deviation). Here we obtain something that looks like a normal distribution but with a very long tail.

Now, every analyst should know that the #OilPrice shouln't be modeled with #lognormal distributions any more.
Consequently, also percentual #returns are not adequate any more, since you risk a #divisionbyzero & other funny things.
BREAKING: Crude oil prices on the May contract plummet below negative $10 per barrel; crude oil is down more than 160% percent on the day https://t.co/HlsH3slbGO
@CRMatematica @ElsaArcaute Main message (I think) is that
when you define cities in a "natural" way
the size (population) distribution is very broad.
But it is not a #PowerLaw 😲
It is a #lognormal! 😀

Proofreading the PowerPoint slides of all of the presenters for @tastytrade's Geeks on Parade and I swear my brain hurts. But I'm learning cool stuff! Should be a great show on 07/13. Maybe take some Adderall. #justsayin #math #lognormal #brownianmotionintheocean
