🔥COVID can switch on the same extrafollicular DN2 B-cell program that fuels lupus and flood the blood with autoantibodies.....😳

Self-directed antibodies are found in people with #LongCovid. A key source of these was identified, and these autoantibodies and cell origin are also seen in lupus. @ImmunityCP

Last July, I took a break from journalism and decided to pursue a Master's degree. Over the past year, I've written academic essays and data-driven policy papers but nothing for the newspaper. Took me long enough. :)

2026.... and #LongC0VID is big news! 😳
Sadly many of us already knew this back in 2020, thanks to @fitterhappierAJ
MSM are now catching up, ok, better late than never!😷
The immune systems of people with long Covid may remain locked in a prolonged battle with remnants of the coronavirus, producing inflammation while failing to effectively eliminate its source, new research suggests. https://t.co/2WCbrAZ9EF
The MAiD program in Canada is being marketed to the disabled and will be available to be marketed to the mentally ill in 2027. I know of many people with #LongC0VID and other PAISs like #ME who are also choosing euthenasia mainly due to lack of research, lack of medical care, inability to support themselves (can no longer work), medical abuse.

Long-term angiogenic and thromboinflammatory signatures in post-COVID-19 syndrome
🚨3.5 years after severe COVID: VEGF-D skyrockets, clotting stays disrupted, and two-thirds still have fatigue + brain fog. The vascular wound clearly didn’t resolve! #LongC0VID
➡️Another study, now from Mexico( small cohort, n=32), showing persistent vascular/thromboinflammatory abnormalities, now documented at approximately 3.5 years post-infection (hospitalized 2020, follow-up 2023–2024).
➡️Key findings:
- Small cohort of 32 adults (median age 50, 75% male) hospitalized with severe/critical COVID-19 in 2020 at Mexico’s National Institute of Respiratory Diseases,
- Paired plasma samples from acute hospitalization vs. ~3.5-year follow-up (2023–2024),
- Persistent symptoms with high prevalently: fatigue 65.6%, dyspnoea 62.5%, concentration difficulties 65.6%,
- Angiogenic markers: VEGF-D rose sharply (median 10.4 → 75.2 pg/mL, p<0.001), angiopoietin-1 trended upward. Soluble P-selectin fell,
- Thromboinflammatory changes: alpha-2-macroglobulin increased (38.7 → 86.8 mg/dL, p<0.001). Prothrombin time remained abnormal in a subset,
- Strong correlations linked VEGF-D/VEGF-R2 to coagulation parameters and dyspnoea.
‼️So, according to this study, severe COVID-19 leaves a long-lasting vascular scar. Nearly four years later, survivors still show active angiogenic dysregulation and coagulation imbalance that track with ongoing fatigue, breathlessness, and cognitive problems. The infection’s endothelial and thromboinflammatory damage does not simply resolve.
‼️Note, when compared with the science at hand today, we need to add this:
Endothelial/thromboinflammatory changes persist months–years, indeed and worse after severe illness but careful, this also can happen after mild cases. Reinfections can further accumulate damage, with subsequent CV risk increases. It’s not all bad news, trajectories vary, patients can improve, but some retain clear lasting effects.

Overview and Pathophysiology of Long COVID
🚨200–400 MILLION people worldwide are crippled by Long COVID. That's not a 'mild' virus aftermath, it's multi-organ destruction that persists for years. Wake up. #LongC0vid
➡️Authored by @elisaperego78 , a Long COVID patient-researcher and advocate (with lived experience of chronic illness), it brings authenticity and depth rarely found in traditional academic reviews, blending rigorous synthesis with real-world urgency.💪👏
➡️Summary:
1. Long COVID affects an estimated 200–409 million people globally, with pooled prevalence around 36% across studies. Risks persist across all ages, even in mild/asymptomatic or vaccinated/Omicron cases, though attenuated by vaccination,
2. It is a heterogeneous, multi-system condition involving dozens of symptoms (e.g, fatigue, brain fog, dyspnea, pain) that evolve over time, often relapsing, with potential for subclinical damage, disability, and increased mortality,
3. Major pathophysiological mechanisms include viral persistence in tissues, immune dysregulation (e.g, lymphopenia, T-cell exhaustion, autoantibodies, complement issues, mast cell activation), autoimmunity, endothelial dysfunction, micro/macro-thrombosis (including fibrinolysis-resistant microclots), chronic inflammation, microbiome dysbiosis, and reactivation of latent pathogens,
4. Organ-specific involvement is widespread: cardiovascular/endothelial (e.g, vasculopathy, accelerated aging, perfusion defects), heart (myocarditis, arrhythmias, ischemia), lungs (fibrosis, thrombosis, perfusion abnormalities), CNS (neuroinflammation, Gray matter loss, BBB disruption), PNS (neuropathy, dysautonomia/POTS-like), GI (dysbiosis, barrier impairment), hepatobiliary/pancreas (injury, new-onset diabetes), kidney (progression to CKD, thrombotic microangiopathy),
5. Evidence draws from imaging (e.g, CMR showing up to 78% cardiac involvement post-mild infection), histology/autopsy (viral presence, thrombi, NETs), and large meta-analyses (e.g, 97 million people showing elevated autoimmune disease risk),
6. Challenges include heterogeneous case definitions (WHO, NICE, etc.), limited biomarker access, surveillance gaps post-2022, and reinfection contributions.
➡️‼️In short, this isn't just another review, it's a patient-powered wake-up call exposing Long COVID as one of the most complex, widespread, and under-addressed biological crises of our era.
‼️So, Long COVID represents a profound, enduring public health crisis driven by persistent viral and immune-mediated multi-organ destruction, with no resolution in sight without urgent, scaled-up research and intervention. #WAKEUP #AvoidSars2 #AvoidReinfections

Fascinating study explanation 🧵👇

But its fragments can still act.
Sometimes fast.
Sometimes slow."

What we once described as toxin-like persistence is now better understood, hypothetically, as a peptide-driven, shape-dependent membrane vulnerability - with nanostructures acting as storage, not effectors.
Yes - hypothesis - but now with a mechanism.🧵

CATA has written to the Minister, respectfully advising her that, as per her predecessor (Gwynne), she’s been badly advised.
One can only speculate whether by DHSC, UK-HSA or the NHS/IPC “droplet, not airborne” dogmatists.

“bizarre complaints that nobody can fix where no actual treatment was given. The patients are demanding treatments for conditions that nobody can give them the diagnosis for.”
#LongC0VID
Don’t worry I’m also a big fan of yours, but doctors have no protection right now. Complaints to hospitals and the college are skyrocketing because people are so angry about lack of access to care. Dr. are going to work scared because the next patient is going to report them to the college for spurious reasons. Hundreds of hours at hospitals taken up by bizarre complaints that nobody can fix where no actual treatment was given. The patients are demanding treatments for conditions that nobody can give them the diagnosis for. Imagine spending 1000 hours because people don’t want to give you surgery.
