Top Tweets for #NFLdisabled
@BenefitsHuddle The @nflpa and @demauricesmith negotiated this deal to take the funds that were given to support its most vulnerable members, the #NFLDisabled to help fund this.
400 families of #NFLdisabled are having 25% of their fixed income cut Jan 1st. If anyone else on the NFL side or PA side was getting a 25% cut of income, u can be sure they would be talking about it in these negotiations.
Would @DeSmithNFLPA bargain away a 25% cut of HIS income?
The NFL and NFLPA did an 11-year CBA five months ago, probably thought they were done negotiating for 10 years. But back at it, just negotiated a mini-CBA, kudos to them. A couple things that caught my eye...
@TheSamAcho @NFL You wouldn’t want to put YOURSELF or YOUR family in jeopardy, right? Please consider that and think about what the #2020CBA is doing to the #400forgotten families of the #NFLdisabled who you EASILY brushed to the side when bargaining their benefits away.
#NFLDisabled followed procedures according to @NFL Disability Plan, jumped thru hoops to be awarded, were grateful for being approved, planned lives according to award letters. NOW NFL & @NFLPA wants to change the procedures & amounts & make them redo the process. Is this right?
At age 55, Pension “Credits” mean nothing if on Disability, its offset. The longer you play in the @NFL, and the older you get, the more you LOSE if you are an #NFLDisabled. They also lose all death benefit for spouse and family and are not allowed to qualify for long term care.
@gr8mimicindy Targeting disabled players for offsets is the way they do business now. Just look at the pension offset for T&P at age 55. Little warning before they pull the rug out from under the players before their T&P benefit is a fraction of what it has been.
Our #NFLDisabled use this funding to pay mortgages, medications, and medical procedures to help deal with chronic pain. #NFLWivesforChange are fighting for their men, fighting against their own brothers at @NFLPA who used their funding to bargain with @NFL Billionaire owners.
400 #NFLDisabled Players to have their monthly funding cut with the new 2020 CBA, saving the owners $12M.
It save this guy $675,000/per year/ per owner.
While @realjerryjones cruises in his yacht, the @NFL's Legends prepare for a $30,000 (22%) pay cut in their fixed income.
This is an example of the hurdles @NFL / @NFLPA puts in front of #NFLdisabled players in order to TRY to prove they need Disability aid, more than not, denying them of benefits. W/ the new #CBA, they are cutting already established benefits and making them be re-evaluated. AGAIN.
This doesn’t surprise me. I live in southern Ca. And the nfl sent me to Fla,AZ with a comprised immune system 3 months post liver transplant. I’m sure they were hoping I couldn’t make it. I had to fly against my doctors orders to even apply for my disability benefits
@DeSmithNFLPA This is what talking out of two sides of your mouth looks like.
Defending First Responders saying they “should be first protected” but under @DeSmithNFLPA watch in the @NFL, he bargained away the funding from the #NFLDisabled putting them last. 🤷🏻♀️
If this was truly the case, the #NFLDisabled ‘s benefits would not have been bargained away in the 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement. But they were. Given away in the deal by the same @DeSmithNFLPA in this hearing.
🎥 In 2009, DeMaurice Smith testified, “the players of the National Football League will not bargain for medical care,” or “for health and safety,” pledging “medical care is not and will never be just a collective bargaining issue.”
In 2020, Smith bargained away medical care.
Will they be able to give advice to the #NFLDisabled on how to PLAN and MANAGE “For Life” Benefits that arent actually “For Life” and can change whenever the @NFL needs their funding back? How do families w/a disabled loved one plan a safe life for their care and their families?

Having a hard time reading past the word “Trust” when attached to the @NFL
#NFLDisabled trusted our #NFL Award Letters that said “you will receive $x for life” actually meant “you will receive $x for life”
How do u financially plan when u never know what the NFL will take away?

@SheillaDingus Quite a good insight of what many families of the #NFLDisabled Players have to go thru only to be denied, denied, denied. This isn’t a one time incident. This is how the @NFL has developed the system.
Two “favorable” reports from NFL neutral physicians and the @NFL still denied disability benefits. The 2020 CBA will allow the @NFL to get away with this again after @JohnKerry @amyklobuchar @RepLindaSanchez @RepMaxineWaters fought for the rights of the #NFLdisabled in 2007.
Testimony from a 2007 Congressional Hearing on #NFL #Disability denials.
This is what the 2020 CBA seeks to reinstate in eliminating approval based on Social Security Disability determinations. #NFLPA @amyklobuchar @RepLindaSanchez @RepMaxineWaters @JohnKerry
There are 400 wives & caregivers of the #NFLDisabled who are devastated by this injustice. The burden is now on them. How do they care for their husbands & now support the 25% loss of income or risk the loss of their homes or not pay for medical treatments? #NFLWivesforChange
“It’s life or death for me. My husband’s life isn’t a bargaining tool”

@BenefitsHuddle @SheillaDingus with declarations from our leader like this... the #NFLDisabled has no reason to believe whatsoever that their benefits would ever be stripped. Were we not supposed to believe what @DeSmithNFLPA said here (under oath?) in congress. @JCTretter
🎥 2009: DeMaurice Smith testified to the US House Judiciary Committee that he was committed to current and former players in “getting the right answers” to protect them.
Before Congress, Smith said he would “do better,” but, this year, he bargained away disability benefits.
Members of the @NFLPA EC were FOR it.
They OFFERED the #NFLDisabled benefits to the Owners as a concession inorder to get other things they wanted. They have publicly admitted it. @DeSmithNFLPA @ericwinston @realdondavis @thomasmorstead @SamAcho @JCTretter They all wanted it.
@90sto2000s1 @DisabledNfl @JCTretter @NFLPA @realdondavis @ericwinston @TheSamAcho @BenjaminSWatson @BenefitsHuddle @WomenoftheNFL @SheillaDingus @scottshanle @Coach_Cason23 @PassMonique @ericbarton50 @E_Reid35 @TonyDungy @JohnKerry Owners aren’t signing a side letter for issue. The big payoff is on health elsewhere in the #CBA. Now that your families have were sacrificed the balance of membership is locked into a disaster deal. Shocked the EC don’t see the magnitude of the owners’ win. #NFLPA @JCTretter
It’s a tragedy that #NFLDisabled players have to rely on Twitter for help with getting @NFL Benefits. Their own @NFLPA has bargained their benefits away. @ditkaofficial @Bigweb52 @RealGaleSayers @DarylJohnston @GloriaAllred
#NFLWivesforChange
#NFL-#NFLPA Disability Plan didn't find this man to be disabled. It was only through a Social Security Administration determination that he was approved for NFL benefits. The new CBA wants to take this away.
@E_Reid35 @RSherman_25 @onemangang97 @meiselasb @GencoLaw @ChuckModi1
In the 2020 #CBA, the #NFLDisabled have been targeted
There is NO OTHER ENTITY in this document that is affected so brutally as it does the men on #NFLDisability
Article 60 in this 456 pg doc will devastate these families who will now have their funding cut away.
@JohnKerry @paulkrugman At a time of financial insecurity 4 American Families covid 19, billionaire nfl owners no longer want to fund disabled former players as they promised in past Senate hearinngs and negotiations. Will u help? WomenoftheNFL @SheillaDingus @PassMonique @scottshanle @BenefitsHuddle
Strong Wives, Daughters, Sons, Parents, Communities... There are 1000's of people caring for the #NFLDisabled. Here is a chance to tell your story. We have each other and will stand strong together. #NFLWivesforChange
We are coordinating, and want to hear from all the wives of retired disabled players who have sacrificed their lives too as caretakers for their disabled husbands which has become their full time job and continuously adversely impacted by changes to CBA by NFLPA.
