🆕 Webb has been watching a lava world! 🌋
The emission spectrum captured by #NIRSpec shows the brightness of different wavelengths of light coming from the ultra-hot super-Earth exoplanet, TOI-561 b, during a secondary eclipse. The data suggest the planet is not a bare rock, but surrounded by a thick, volatile-rich atmosphere. 1/2

Webb’s #NIRSpec was used to analyse the galaxy’s spectrum and estimate the mass of the accreting supermassive black hole at its centre. It’s big – unusually big for a galaxy of CANUCS-LRD-z8.6’s size. 2/3
We can’t yet rule out an atmosphere, since many data points fit either scenario – but Webb will make more observations and help researchers refine their atmospheric readings!
